Hi Everyone, I am new to this group. I also have SLE, Discoid Lupus, MCTD and Sjogrens along with Hypothyroid (dr now thinks I have had hoshimoto my whole life).

I was diagnosed with thyroid at the age of 18, I am now 39.

So here is my problem...I have been sick for over a year now, I got a new rheumy and he did a list of blood work about two weeks ago. My thyroid level came back at 99 (is that possible) I usually take 75mcg, he has now moved me up to 200mcg. Well since I have been taking them I am having trouble (i thought it was just my lupus) I have had migranes, blurred vision, eye pain, dizziness, nausea, slurred speach etc...it is getting worse by the day. So yesterday I called my dr, he told me to come in and looked at me and sent me off to the ER..they just said I was having a migrane. I asked the ER dr if it could be the medication, he just said could be. My mom and dad did some research on SYNTHROID and my dosage and said it sounded like I was OVERDOSING, they are very worried.

Can someone help me? I am scared and confused and cannot get my dr to help.

I appreciate any input you might have, I am scared.

thank you,
paige

" Paige

A normal TSH is 0.3 to 3.0. My doc keeps mine below 1.0 to prevent thyroid cancer recurrence. I take 200 mcg of name brand Synthroid. If you need that much it is not overdosing. Please find out what your TSH is. If it is over 3.0 you may need to increase your Synthroid. Usually when they have changed my medicine they did it gradually. I have never had the problems you described like migraines. I don't know if the new symptoms are related to Synthroid or something else. I am 41 and have been hypothyroid since 17. "

" Hi paigeb, I know synthroid is supposed to be increased gradually. The jump from 75 to 200 could definitely be contributing to your symptoms. I would call and inform them of your increase. If one doc won't give you an answer, seek out another. How is your heart rate?

" My dr told me that normal levels are .4 to 4.5 my level was 99.608 (just read that off the lab results) I also learned that your synthroid is based on weight.(found this on refdesk.com)..is that true and if so they have me on way to much. He did not gradually move me up, I went from one day at 75mcg to the next day taking 200mcg. I went and had new blood work done, and cut my pill in half per dr orders. I just don't know.

I appreciate your help. Thank you so much. "

" I don't think it is normal to jump from 75 to 200. Am sure it is stressing your adrenals. Uusally it is raised by 25mcgs to 50mcgs every 6 to 8 weeks. "

" Do you know what your Free T3 and Free T4 are also? These thyroid labs tests are just as important to those who are hypOthyroid just as those who are hypERthyroid. Don't go by TSH alone.

Did you also get a complete lab work up such as CBC, etc.? It'll pinpoint additional problems that are high or low to aggravate the lupus and other health symptoms of yours.

Take care... "

" hi mmztcass,

I just had a ton of blood work done at the begining of june, on my CBC my Hemoglobin was high, my RNP is high...it just tells me the TSH level but I am pretty sure he did the T3 but not the T4. I cut my pill in half a couple of days ago, and things are starting to calm down...so I am wondering. The bad pain and pressure in my head is still there but the eyes are better.

Thank you for your help, I appreciate it.

hugs,
paige "
