I was just wondering, do you all believe that thyroid problems CAUSE mental illnesses? I have B.D.D. (Body Dysmorphic Disorder) and they are saying it is related to my thyroid issues...

Also, I haven't been on my thyroid meds in over a year... I was on synthroid .15 mgs and I fear that something is wrong... Heres the tough part, I have ZERO health insurance... Anyone know how to get back on synthroid before it's too late? The LASt time I went to my dr, the sonogram showed four grey spots on the screen... I can't afford the treatment of it thogh... I was 12 when I last saw a Dr about it... I am 18, no job, and am currently living with someone who is helping me out (it's a LONG story)... I fear that I may not be able to become pregnant anymore as well... (The closest thing I have come to a GYN appointment is a rape-kit)... Can anyone help me? I have no idea where to start...

" Yes, I have had BDD and agoraphobia when my thyroid is low.

Do you have any free clinics in your area? They usually charge based on your income.

You would need TSH, Ft4 and Ft3, but most docs will start out only testing TSH. "

" Definitely insist of the Free T3 and the Free T4 with the TSH. Changes in thyroid levels can cause what feels like mental and emotional problems for us. When we get the levels right with the meds taken, we get back on track feeling better. Like bm55 says, look for one of those low income-free clinics. Does your state have something like an AHCCESS program or something similar?

" I am not very sure..
I used to live in Texas and only recently moved to NJ...
I don't know much about it...
bm55, What happens if you have absolutely NO income at all?

Thank you for replying...
