" Here is some answers to your question, I found on yahoo! answers:
http://au.answers.yahoo.com/questi...
I think the outcome was kind of grim, like you die...
What medications have you tried? How bad is your hypothyroidism?
It could be that you just haven't found a good doctor that can correctly diagnose you and that you with the right amount/medication.
Hope it all works out!
Take care,
Jon "

" I'm pretty sure diet can't fix hormones -they are manufactured in the body. The end point would be deah if not treated -eventually. Have you tried Armour or the Bioidentical t3/t4 from a compounding pharmacy -these are more natural products and maybe tolerated better. Some endocrinologists are reluctant use them, so you may need to find a naturopath or altrnative treatments physician to prescribe thse meds. ITC compounding phamacy in Colorado is where I get my bioidentical t3/t4 - they maybr able to help you to find a physician near you. Blessings, Teri "

" Jonsparky,

Awesome find! And yes I agree with all that have posted here. Very serious disease we have and should not be taken lightly ever. I was on Levo but no matter what increase or decrease I never got relief until I started on Armour Thyroid. I to, had a hyst at age 32 and they never started me on any hormones until now at age 54. I am taking Bi-Est & Progesterone and I do not have any hot or freezing days or nights now. They also put me on Cortisol. If the regular docs are not helping you I agree in regards to going to see a alternative health and wellness doc also. It gave me my life back :)
Bright Blessings to you

" I'll just tell you my own experience from not taking meds:

I was on Synthroid for 14 yrs. When I lost my job/insurance in 06, I ran out of Synthroid and didn't refill my prescription, even after I got a new job. From July 2006- Oct 2008, I didn't take a single pill. I felt fine for 2+ years! Who needs Synthroid anyway????

That was definitely the stupidest thing I ever did. In the past 6 weeks, I have been plagued by panic attacks, constant anxiety, fatigue, and the general inability to function in my normal life. In short, my brain just went haywire. My TSH levels were at 14 when I went to the doctor. It has taken 6 weeks of Synthroid for me to get back to the point where I can wake up and feel like I might have a normal day.

I will never go off thyroid meds again, no matter the side effects. There has to be a better solution out there for you. Please don't stop taking your medication, and I hope you find a doctor/medication that will work for you. "

" I can't give medical advice... but hypothyroid doesn't cure itself. Adding sea salt & kelp to your diet can help if your doctor & you decide that you can't take medication. Be sure to see an endocrinologist before you make a final decision. "

" Ask your GP for a referral to a speialist....in the old days they used to take sea weed...or iodine.....it is hard to get the right dosage....there are many other alternatives but you should be in the hands of a specialist in such things..the thyroid is the bodies"HALL MONITOR"......It tells you how much fluid to retain, how heavy your periods should be, how hot or how cold you should be....it tells your body how much INSULIN to give out....it tells your hair to grow....and you should NOT be giving up on all thyroid meds cause you had a bad reaction to a couple.....This too shall pass...but if you don't take care of it.....YOU CAN PASS...... " I just joined tonite and came across your question. I have been on and off my meds for insurance and many other stupid reasons.
I never felt right becase i never knwe how it felt not to be tired or cold.

But the biggest lesson I learned was just recently, I ended up in the hospital becase I thought I was a heart attack.
I did not have a heart attack, but I did discover that the thyroid can effect your heart. It was the biggest wake up call ever!
TAKE YOUR MEDS! your body needs it to function properly.

" I recently went for about seven weeks without my medication because I had no money and no insurance. I'm in graduate school and it completely ruined my term.

I felt fine for a little while, but I completely lost the ability to focus or retain information. I could sleep 16-18 hours a day with no problem. I wasn't on the right dose *before* I stopped taking my drugs, and going off made things even more haywire. After about a month, I began having shortness of breath. The shortest walk would leave me panting. I was at a party one night and I got winded just standing around and talking! I felt like I'd been jogging and I'd only been standing still! Then around the sixth week I got a large swollen mass in my neck. It was visible beneath the skin. I could barely swallow and it was difficult to breathe. I'm a fairly giggly person and it hurt most of all to laugh. I got ahold of some cash and bought my meds. I had some pretty bad nausea when I started taking them again, but that subsided after about a week. I've been back on them a few weeks and I'm already in tremendously better shape. The bulge has gone down considerably and I'm not sleeping as much. "
