rapid heart rate?

I know it's not typically a symptom of hypothyroidism, but I have a pretty rapid heart rate - about 90-95 beats/minute. I'm on 20 mcg of levothyroxine, and would like to be on more because I am exhausted all of the time. But my doctor won't give me more because he doesn't want my heart going any faster than it already does. Anyone else having this problem?

" hi.. i have mixed symptoms that contradict hyper and hypo.. i take proprananol )beta blockers)every day to get rid of the rapid heart beat and palpertations 40mg in the morning and 40 mg at night,... however they give me this as i have to have my levels kept below 0.5 so it cant be done any other way.. it might be worth mentioning it to the doctor though!! " Sounds like what I have Hashimoto's Disease. Most hypothyroidism but with bouts of hyper too. My heart rate was at that rate for 9 months on the lowest dosage until doc figured out I was overmedicated on synthroid 25 mcg. Now I take nothing, and my heart runs at about 70-80 bpm. "

" And being overmedicated caused me to have hyperthyroidism and made me soo tired. "

" Are you getting a full Thyroid panel done? At least, TSH, Free T4, Free T3. You want to make sure your Free T3 isn't too high or Free T4. "

" The way I find out I had Hypo was because I was getting really bad chest pains at 17 and thought I was having a heart attack. I had various tests inc TSH and then once I was treated I felt so much better. My chest pain stopped and I had more energy etc. However it was also noted that I had a very rapid heart at times upto 120 beats per min but it was regular. I was not overweight when I was diagnosed but I did make an effort to get fit and I found that this reduced heart rate to more like 80 so thats what its at the moment! "

" Thanks everyone for your comments and suggestions. I do think my heart rate is just high normally, but I was frustrated b/c my doc wouldn't give me more synthoid to kick the exhaustion. Now he has added T3 (cytomel 25 mg) and that has helped noticably. I can concentrate again - hooray! "

" Hello Blair,
Why don't they give you a beta blocker to slow your heart down - Atenolol - This will slow your heart down so they can move your thyroid dosage up so you can get more energy. Is you thyroid level low now and they are not moving it up because of your heart?
Take good care! "

" Blair,
If you aren't seeing a specialist, I would say go find a endo. I was having the same issue and I take a beta blocker. I have Hashimoto's disease and now that they have increased my synthroid it is all getting better. "
