Hi,
I'm not new to DS but new to this forum. I was diagnosed with Hypothyrodism and low Vitamin D levels. (More tests to come) In the meantime I was put on Synthroid 112 mcg. and 50000 IU weekly of Vitamin D. Now I'm having more neck stiffnes and headaches, and my throat feels more swollen. Is this normal as I get adjusted to the drugs? They did an ultrasound yesterday because my Endo detected a possible nodule he wanted checked. I won't get the results to that until later this month - same with some additional blood tests he ordered. What's been your experience with symptoms after being put on medicine? (Yeah my hair is still falling out) Posted on 08/08/09, 03:08 pm |

I changed doses recently a family member asked if my hair had been growing back.
I felt dizzy... all kinds of weird feelings right after it changed. I lay low a little bit around those times because everything changes. Sometimes, I talk a little funny for a few days after that. Just makes me feel really wonky until I adjust. That can be with a change from 125 to 112. Ben

Hey - basically - you won't need labs every too months once regulated.
Two months is the period of time it takes for the hormone replacement to build up in your system and stabilize. My hair grows back rather quickly after a month or two. You're on the right track and you'll see that improvement a little later on. I feel all wacky when my meds are adjusted. It levels out. Ben

It's been about a month and a half now, and I "think" my hair has stopped falling out in masses - too early to tell if it is coming back in. Yesterday, I went in for a glucose tolerance test. YUCK. I will see the MD next week with the results but I went online and basically found that I'm borderline diabetic too at the moment. So now I'm trying to figure out between Hypothydism and Prediabetic what I should eat. (I've found lots of lists of what I can't eat.) I think it would be simplier to compile a list of what you CAN have.
Any help? :) I know - no Soy, No hydrodized anything.. more protein.. (lean) more cooked veggies, but avoid peaches, pears, strawberries, raw broccoli, cauliflower, ... help~~

Never heard about avoiding those fruits and veggies, I love those---I would not do that and I have Hashimotos Disease. They haven't bothered me at all and are good fiber. That sounds like an enormous amount of Vit D ! They will keep increasing the Synthroid all the time because it only has the inactive T4 and it does not help. I could hardly swallow when I was on that for a year and now the tumors have shrunk and I feel great on Armour Thyroid. Good Stuff !!

Careful on the prediabetic thing if it hasn't been solidly diagnosed.
Not sure what glucose test results you had, but I was told that if you haven't completely fasted for 12 hours before the glucose test, it will come up showing you have a problem, but it doesn't mean anything. So clarify that detail with your Doctor. Let them know if you did eat. Make sure you are not self diagnosing through the tests. Make sure it is your doctor making that determination. Ben Ps. I hope your hair has stopped falling out. You're testing, sorting out what you've got, and it sounds like you are beginning to manage things.
