Hypoparathyroidism & Kidney Function

I had a thyroidectomy in March 2007. Then my parathyroid glands stopped working. Now I have high blood pressure (didn't have it before the surgery) and trouble taking Calcitriol (Vit D) and calcium (Tums) because it is causing my kidneys to create high creatine levels - meaning I'm not flushing toxins out of my system. My Endocrinologist took my off Calcium & Vit D for a week to lower my calcium level and creatine level. I had an ultrasound of my kidneys and was told they were "normal" but I have experienced lower back pain. Has anyone else with hypoparathyroidism experienced these issues? I'm scared I am damaging my kidneys and cannot get an answer from my primary doc or endrocrinologist. Waiting to do more blood tests next week. Thanks for any responses - much appreciated.

" Thanks for your input! I finally was referred to a kidney doctor and did a "24 hour urine" test. Since my endocrinologist lowered my dose of TUMS to 3,000 mg/day (from a high of 9,000 mg/day after my surgery), my kidneys are able to process the calcium and are now functioning at 95%. The kidney specialist said he doubted I damaged my kidneys. What a relief! My only concern now is if I am getting enough calcium for my bones, muscles etc. The kidney specialist said that sometimes a parathyroid gland may regenerate - even a few cells can make a difference. I'm supposed to go back and see him in 6 months and he's going to test my parathyroid glands. I was also told to lose weight. "
