Suddenly better?

My eighteen year old son has been reactive hypoglycemic for as long as he can remember. He has some sort of hereditary cause, as yet undetermined. He was only diagnosed a year ago. His condition had worsened during his teen years until it became debilitating. Since the diagnosis he has been learning everything he can about the subject and has been doing a pretty good job of managing it, although it's still been a hurdle in his life.
Several weeks ago his symptoms suddenly disappeared. One day he went out mountain biking for hours, heavy exercise, and for the remainder of the day had no symptoms. His mood was stable and he said he didn't have that "hypoglycemic feeling". He exercised in such a way for the next several days. Then he had to begin work at a new job, and since hasn't had the time to exercise much. But his symptoms have not returned. He is continuing, of course, to eat carefully - I doubt if he'd be alright if he ran out and ate a bunch of donuts. What could cause him to suddenly be symptom-free? Could it have anything to do with the exercise or was that just a co-incidence? Exercise, of course, produces adrenaline, which would combat the insulin - but how could it have ongoing results? We've worried a little that he might be transitioning in to Type II Diabetes - but such a sudden change? I'm realizing that this may just be a lull in the symptoms, not that he's necessarily suddenly "cured", but what could be the cause of the lull? Does anyone have any thoughts about this?
