Reaction from even the smallest smidge of sugar?

Hi,

I want to ask if anyone has a similar experience. I have known I have hypoglycemia for about 4 years and I just ate more frequently and tried to incorporate protein in every meal but I never gave up sugar-in fact I live for dessert. This year I went on a diet to lose a few pounds and discovered light ice cream and many other "healthy" food items I have come to realize are laden in sugar-so I think I dramatically increased my sugar consumption. After this, I started to notice that I would be hungry all of the time-I would eat and be hungry an hour later-my hypoglycemia had never manifested itself in this way. I always felt shaky, lightheaded, would get sweaty if I didn't eat or if I drank coffee or something very sugary but this all the time hunger was new. I then started to think it just wasn't normal, I would have to eat every hour and would feel foggy, irritable, lash out at people, very tired and lethargic all day. I started googling and I saw that the real solution for hypoglycemics is to cut out ALL sugar. I was never told this by a dr.-in fact my low blood sugar wasn't really approached like it was a real issue-it doesn't seem like the medical profession knows much about it...Anyway last Wednesday I decided to give up all white sugar. I went to WH and bought fudge bars with "dehydrated cane juice," and almost immediately I felt like I was in a haze, disorientated, headache, loss of focus, just generally crappy. I realized that had to go too.

The next day I am doing well with no sugar and I got thai food prepared with no sugar or cornstarch. I ask for a side of chili sauce not thinking. I eat without chili sauce and feel fine, add a small amount of sauce to my remaining portion and after eating I get the same feeling from the day before. How can it be when there was probably just a miniscule amount and it was balanced out by protein? The same thing happened last night after eating a rotisserie chicken, salad, and hummus-I come to find out the chicken was injected with sugar.

How can my body be SO sensitive. I cannot come across with any article or whatnot address such a sensitivity-I just see "oh if you eat sugar, balance it with protein." My body is practically a sugar detector as I feel like crap right after eating any amount. I am afraid to eat out anywhere now. I got food Friday night and asked if there was sugar and got weird looks. I feel like no one understands or will recognize how I feel as valid.

Please advise-does anyone else feel horrible even after the smallest of pinches of sugar?

" i get very frustrated with my hypoglycemia also because its such a strict diet to follow and i hate being this sensitive to so many foods that are considered to be normal by everyone around me. its very hard! i cant tolerate bread, even whole grain bread. my carb tolerance is very low and when i'm not careful about eating what i can tolerate i have all kinds of trouble. anyway, i can completely sympathise with you.
