Advice:
Any Alturnatives to Nuts for Protein?

Well first off, I'm one of the few people to get hypo- at only 14 instead of as most people I've heard of around 18 or later. Anyways, at my school we aren't aloud to eat nuts because there are some severe nut allergies in another grade. I eat breakfast around 7am and my lunch isn't until 12:30. My doctor says that this is too big of a gap between meals for me so I'm suppose to eat a snack at our reading time at about 10am but I never thought to ask of an alternative to nuts. Any suggestions?

" how about a protein shake. I've actually had to drink them at room temp (ya gotta do what ya gotta do). Have you or your parents spoken to the school about this because this is a health issue for you just as it is for the students who are allergic to nuts. I don't know the circumstances but that seems kind of extreme to say no one can eat nuts. "

" no that wouldn't work too well. there's a 7th grader (im in 8th) who has seizures and could die if he even smells nuts... "

" Ok, yeah that's pretty serious. What about one of those single wrapped pieces of cheese, or maybe 1/2 a protein bar. "

" My son has always had permission to leave class to have a protein snack in the clinic . You need a Dr.s note - give a copy to all the teachers, administrators, school nurse, make a big deal about it, and give the clinic plenty of snacks, cheese sticks, beef jerky, mini tuna cans, protein bars, whatever you need. It is the difference between you functioning at school or being ill. "

" It's not really a matter of time because if I eat snack at the normal time I'm fine but I just need an alternative... "

" Slim fast low carb shakes in chocolate are not bad at all. They're low sugar and high protein, and easy to throw in your bag. They help me through long afternoons between meals. "
