I am conused about what the endo said

I finally went to an endo yesterday, but I was puzzled by her response. She told me that I might not have hyperthyroidism that it could be a sugar issue. Her specialty is diabeties not thyroid disorder. She ordered me to stop taking my PTU and my birth control for 6wks. I explained to her that without the PTU I get bad headaches. What I am trying to figure out is if its my sugar then why when I get my sugar tested is it always normal? I don't agree with what she said so I am searching for another endo whose specialty is thyroid disoders. She also said to go on a low sugar, high protein diet. So far I have been told by three different doctors that I have three different issues. Dr 1 said it was too much caffeine, dr 2 said I was hyper and now this endo said its a sugar issue. I am choosing not to go without my medication because I feel she is wrong. I did however lower my dosage. Any ideas or suggestions.

Here are my most recent lab results:
T3 uptake : 36.10
T4 thyroxine: 7.45
t7 fti: 6.72
glucose 79

" Please get the right thyroid tests done, which are: the Free T3, Free T4, and TSH. To find out if you have HypERthyroidism, please get these antibodies done of the: TSI (Thyroid Stimulating Immunoglobulins) and TRAb (Thyroid Receptors antibodies) or TBII (Thyroid Binding Immunoglobulins) to see if you test positive for Graves' Disease.

Please post the lab results and the lab ranges when you have these done. The other tests: T3 Uptake, T4 Thyroxine and T7 are not the correct thyroid labs.

I'm not a doctor, so I cannot diagnose what is your problem. However I'm a patient advocate with doing the right lab tests and can often see what may be wrong and tell the person to go to go to the doctor for any suspected condition arising from the labs.

Please post the Glucose lab ranges. Is your sugar numbers within normal ranges every time?

How much PTU are you taking and how often?

What kind of other symptoms are you having? Please list them here so I and the others can point you to the right direction with the doctors with any ideas

Take care... :-) "

" The last time I had the correct tests done was 5/6/08. I don't understand why I was getting blood work done for something that has nothing to really do with being hyper. I was always being tested for the t3 uptake and the t4 thyroxine. My free t3 count was last done at 2.60 abd nt t4 was .41l and tsh was 3.13. I am not due to get the tests done again until the 17th of this month. I take two 50mg PTU pills in the morning and two at night. The main symptoms have been headaches, double vision, numbness, intolerance to heat and lack of energy and moodyness.

Thank you for your help. :) "

" Okay and my next suggestion, please do not go too long in between to get labs done. As a rule of thumb, go every six week to no more than every two months while on the ATD therapy, especially. I go every two months and I have been on MMI (Methimazole) for six years.

Go ahead and ask for these lab tests I mentioned in my first post for this thread. Then come back and post the results as well as the ranges for them.

Do you have the lab ranges for the Free T3, Free T4, and the TSH you had done? How long ago were these labs done?

Thanks for any additional help you can provide. Your symptoms sound like hypO, but I can't be sure.

" Thanks for all your help. I was getting bloodwork done every two months or so, but apparently I wasn't getting the right tests. I posted the last correct lab work in my previous post. They were from May of last yr. I am due to get the correct ones done again this month after I have been off my PTU and birth control for two weeks. "

" Yes, I do see the last results you had, but no lab ranges to go with the numbers.

Okay, I will be waitng for the next lab results in a couple of weeks. I will help you as best as I can with any ideas/suggestions. I know it's frustrating when we often don't know what's going on with us and try to piece everything together.

" Thank you for your help. I have been looking into hypoglycemia (what the doctor said I have) and it seems it has similar symptoms to hyperthyroidism. I will post my results as soon as I get them and keep you informed. Thanks again.
