hyperthyroidism/graves

I am 38, almost 39. Found out in August of 2010, that I have hyperthyroidism, and now, with graves. My vision is horrible. Head aches, blurred, double vision, color blind, can't drive, run red lights, almost hit parked and moving cars. I am becoming very aggressive lately, and snap at nothing. Stress is driving me crazy. Sweating, intolerable to heat, the sun, loud noises, people, crowds, I can't sleep, focus, remember, I forget things all day long, can't concentrate, I forget how to spell things, I can not even do simple math problems. I am raising 2 children, on my own, ages, 3 and 19 months...I eat all day long, losing weight like crazy, go to the rest room several times a day, menstrual cycle is out of whack, my nerves are shot, and no one seems to understand how my daily life goes...This stuff is awful. I finally go to a Dr on the 20th, so I am hoping for some relief...I have not worked since I was told what I have. I could not imagine trying to work, take care of babies, and deal with this health issue. Anyone else, have symptoms like mine..

Hi,
I was told my levels were normal yet I have the classic symptoms of hyperthyroid. I am taking some natural supplements and iodine from the chiropractor and they are helping greatly. I can share more in a private message. I deal with chronic anxiety, weight loss, hair loss, extreme mood swings, tachycardia, etc. yet the doctors said I was within normal limits. I understand what you are going through and can't imagine having to raise 2 small children during such a time as this. It can get better!

I went through these very same symptoms with Graves disease. I know how miserable you are feeling. Good thing you are going to see the doctor soon. Good luck.
Just a note, do not let them do RAI on you especially if you are having vision problems, as he RAI will make it worse. The doc never told me this would happen and I didin't know. Do the PTU or Methimazole

I found out i had grave's disease in June of this year and it took more than a month to get medication to control the visiion issue and now the grave's has moved down into my body and i am having the same kind of issues with my nerves being out of whack and the headaches and not being able to be at peace with myself my doctor took her time getting me to an endocrinogist for further help but at least that is about to happen but my situation is complicated due to the fact that almost a year ago i had a vertical sleeve gastrectomy that i probably should not have had if they had look more closely at my lab work and seen that my TSH levels were not correct then and started my treatment a year ago now i have been in full blow grave's disease without treatment for over a year and my body is so out of control. i don't know what to do.

The thyroid and adrenals and digestion are all connected.
I have the symptoms of hyperthyroid, acid reflux, and adrenal exhaustion. Check with a natural path as drugs aren't always the answer if you are not getting symptom relief. I am taking supplements that help and the doctor said my thyroid levels are normal yet I have all the classic symptoms. ************************************************ Poor adrenal function is often associated with poor digestion and low gastric acidity. It is probably best to use digestive enzymes that contain hydrochloric acid (usually found as Betaine Hydrochloride OR Organic Apple Cider Vinegar). Typically one would take 1-2 capsules during each meal (amount depends of the size of the meal). Or better yet drink a glass of water with one tablespoon of Organic Apple Cider Vinegar added one half hour before eating. Getting heartburn or acid reflux does not mean that you make too much acid. It means that not enough acid is present. Hormones such as progesterone, estrogen and DHEA are influenced by adrenal function. These hormones are decreased as the adrenal gland places its focus on producing more cortisol. Lower amounts of these hormones can cause many other complications. The adrenal gland is sometimes known as the "fight or flight" organ. It controls the body's response to stress. When a threat is perceived, the adrenal gland releases cortisol (in response to adrenaline) in the bloodstream, instantly increasing our heart rate and blood pressure, slowing digestion and other secondary functions and sharpening our senses. Cortisol, the main stress hormone is wonderfully effective in the face of stress. However, so many of us lead chronically stressful lives that exceed the adrenal glands ability to adjust appropriately to the demands, the adrenal glands can become fatigued and unable to carry out their normal function, and can result in a condition called adrenal fatigue. Some stressors that can lead to adrenal fatigue include depression, anxiety, sleep deprivation, anger and a diet high in sugar

thank you for your reply it was very helpful some of the symptoms like depression and anxiety i already had before the disease hit me, the grave's hit my eyes before it hit my body so i was put on prenisone and topamax for my eyes, i have no idea what others are talking about concerning other meds or even when they talk about t3 or t4 levels.

I wish I had some words of wisdom for you but I am about as new to this as they come! I have been told that off my lab values mine is probably Graves but I have PTC and apparently that is like an unheard of combination so no one knows what to do. The symptoms are a lot a like but they can't be treated together from what I have heard. I have a lot of the same symptoms of you except I did not get the weight loss...that actually would have been good for me!
Anyway don't give up, educate yourself and let your doctor know you want to be actively involved in your treatment. Hugs!!!

thank you for your encouragement, i am definitely pro-active in my health, and sometimes very aggressive as well when it comes to my health and getting things done that need to be done, my weight loss came before the grave's as i had a sleeve gastrectomy to deal with my obesity and other medical issues like diabetes, high blood pressure and all associated with that so you can imagine how i felt after getting healthy and learning how to cook and eat much healthier to be hit with this disease it floored me! this morning i went in search of support and found this site and now i intend to gleen all i can from it and give back as much as i can as often as i can thank you all of you for being willing to put yourselves here for someone like me.

okay now i need to ask the really hard question, after looking up some things from amother site that helped explain lab results to me and figuring out what i was reading in my own labs what do i do nw that i know my disease was purposely ignored, i deal with a county clinic and my previous doctor there didnot believe me when i told him i had graves , he took my labs looked them over and said you don't have graves disease i can't go to another doctor as there are not other doctors in my area accept private doctors and they don't deal with county patients this scares me to no end right now, it has been overlooked for more than a year.
