Hyperthyroid in the family

Hello,

I have been battling hashimoto/hypothyroid since 2001.

My daughter lost a considerable amount of weight over a few years and I had her doctor do the tests to rule out thyroid the 1st 2 tests were borderline and now she had her 3rd thyroid test and I wanted to share her results and get some feedback.

(T3) 212 - High
T3 Uptake 22- Low
(T4) 1.35
TSH 1.930

I asked what we could do to get her levels back to normal and maybe that would help all the other symptoms and prevent any worsening of the thyroid several times in the last visit, but Her doctor said she will run the tests again in 3 months and then decide if anything should be done.

Any thoughts?

" Would you please post the lab ranges to go with the labs? Different labs use their own ranges and also the person's age, etc. figures in as well.

If it looks like the T3 (hoping it was the Free T3) is high, a beta blocker is taken to lower it down. A higher T3 often means a T3 Thyrotoxicosis.

" Hi,

My daughter is 18 and

T3 Uptake - 22 the range is 23-35
Triiodothyronine (T3) - 212 the range is 71 - 180
(T4) - 1.35 the range is 0.93 - 1.60
TSH - 1.930 the range is 0.450 - 4.500

it doesn't say Free T3 on this printout. "

" I suggest you ask your daughter's doctor to order the Free T3. In the meantime her T3 can be used (it is affected by hormones, diet, etc; whereas the FT3 is not). It looks like she may have issues with T3 Thyrotoxicosis since her FT4 is within the upper range.

Is your daughter having any anxiety/panic attacks besides the weight loss issue? If so, speak with the doctor about trying a beta blocker to help normalize the T3 problem.
