I went to see the doctor yesterday and once again she didn't seem to be concerned with the free T3 and T4 results. She said she could tell enough with the TSH level? Also, my psychiatrist is the one who actually ordered the T3/T4 TSH test, and he was saying he is more concerned with the T3 because if it is off, there is some kind of medication I can take to get it back to normal. When I mentioned this to my family doctor, she said he was talking about Iodine and that is what my synthroid is for????
I will ask for the result myself on Monday along with the scale, but in the meantime, I am so confused! Posted on 08/08/09, 02:08 pm |

I posted them already under the title: Results.
So I guess what I'm trying to get at is, if the Free T3 and Free T4 seem to be 'normal', why would the TSH be off and what does it take to get it back to normal range? And is there any evidence/research that the TSH level alone would be a cause for the crazy, unstable feelings I have been experiencing?

Get your thyroid antibodies tests done to what the numbers are. Get the TSI (Thyroid Stimulating Immunglobulins), TRAb (Thyroid Receptors antibodies) and TPOab (Thyroid Peroxidase antibodies) to find out why your TSH is low.
We really do not look at just at the TSH to get well. We look at the Free T3 and the Free T4 numbers too. The only time to pay attention to the TSH is to find out why wer are so hypO or hypER. Use the TSH along with the Free Ts to get the overall picture of the whole story of your thyroid problem together with the antibodies tests to find out what is going on. So at this point you are trying to stabilize the Free Ts and then perhaps your TSH will improve. However the antibodies numbers will tell the story. The crazy unstable feelings may be likely from your Free T3 and the Free T4 being on the lower side of normal. It's best to get these up to the mid to the upper ranges for one to feel their best at. Take care... :-)
