" I had surgery over a year ago and I recovered well from it. I still sometimes experience low calcium and take extra calcium or tums to treat it. I take daily calcium and vitamin D.

Post-op I had very low levels of calcium (tingling, neuropathy in my extremities and lips) for several weeks into months and I constantly took tums. Tums will become your best friend-you cannot go anywhere without them. I recommend you invest in the rolls of tums and keep them everywhere.

My scar healed well-just remember to put sunscreen on your scar every day. I use Neutrogena Healthy Defense SPF 45 daily.

Remember to have your calcium, PTH, and vitamin D levels checked every 3 months. They will need to monitor them closely.

Take care. I wish you the best with your recovery. "

" Thanks for responding. I also experienced low calcium and currently take calcium supplements and calcitriol. I feel like my arms and legs go to "sleep" so easily anymore...not sure if that's related or not. Can I ask why you put sunscreen on your scar? My doctor didn't tell me to do anything to it. I also have yet to experience the "burst" of energy..still tired and fatigued. "

" I will be having surgery on the 29th of Jan. Mine is down in my neck and I might have to have my chest cut open. I am scared and wonder if anyone else had to have it done this way. "
