Fibromyalgia

Just an update with what is going on in my life. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia last month. My rheumatologist tells me that many of the symptoms for fibromyalgia and HMS overlap. Anyone else been diagnosed with both?

On a more positive note, I have started physical therapy and it seems to be helping. I am working on core exercises to give me more strength and control of my movements and we work on pain management by relaxing the soft tissue with massage etc.

Also, tomorrow is my first day in the pool. My therapist has suggested that I start with the arthritis water aerobics class first to see how it goes and stick to breast stroke when doing laps.

And I'll tack on a quick question at the end here. My Dr. tells me that when my knees dislocate, it is the knee cap that is dislocating but it feels to me like my upper leg bone is shifting and kind of falling over my bottom leg bone. He says this would be extremely painful and would put me in the hospital. (And yes, what happens with me is extremely painful but he insists it's the knee cap though he has never seen a dislocation with me.) Anyone know what actually happens when their knee dislocates?

" Hi there! Fortunately, I'm lucky to not have my instability in my knees, that must be so awful and scary..... so unfortunately I can't help you on that front....

I have both hypermobility and fibro too. I think they are commonly found to co-exist... i think, in my own opinion, that from the hypermobility, and the body constantly fighting to stay together, it's exhausting to the body, and fibro develops from being constantly worn down, constantly struggling and the multiple traumas of dislocations.... that is what my experience has been.

Aqua aerobics is wonderful for hypermobility and fibro.... it's great to have the support of the water and slight resistance, and no real jarring movements to the joints. I love it.... "

" I also have both.. I think it is probably quite a common overlap but a sucky one, because as if fibromyalgia isn't painful enough that we have to give it an excuse to hurt some more ;)
I don't have big problems in my knees, but do in my ankles, they are always giving way & I fall over etc.. so embarrassing..!!! "
