Hey, yeah mine are extremely brittle and flake off and break off. The hospital and an army of doctors were amazed and put me on strong calucium tablets...nothing changed. Then lots of moisturiser on my toenails as they were causing problems and kept breaking. Now I just have to keep them very short and paint nail glue and nail hardener over them once a month. Or wear fakes.
Doctors told me that it was probably caused by HMS, so little is really known about what it causes in different people and on different diets. But they reckoned it was probably at least partially to blame. All linked to cartilage and tissue I think but don't quote me on that. Since all my doctors tell me it was triggered by a virus most things seem to be linked to either the orginal virus or the HMS. Not sure if any of that was helpful, I think I just rambled. :)

I have never been told this is linked with HMS! ive been to see the doctor about this before and i was told to add more calcium to my diet, but i already eat a good diet, so its not that.
My nails arent white as they should be, they are see threw and just bend back and for really badly, they break off with the slightest bang. I would love long nails but i have to keep them cut down short.

exactly! i CANT let my finger nails get long, because they just bend or tear right off. i get white spots in the middle of them too, i dont know what thats from. i always figured it was from bumping them wrong. if i do get them some what long i can literally just put my thumb on it and bend it straight done onto the pad of my finger. it also makes it so i cant really use fake nails, because when it comes time to take those off they peel the REAL finger nail off too!

Hi, I just joined the group. I have the weakest nails! I did find out I have really low Vitamin D and maybe that is part of the problem. My fingers are very hypermobile and are now swan necking and trigger from using a touchpad on a laptop.
