I have a little boy Brett age 3 years that was diagnosed PDD-NOS/Hyperlexic. I also have a little boy Sean diagnosed with ASD. Brett I am not sure if he is on the autistic spectrum really. I do know that he has been reading since age 2. Big words and some books. He knows what he is reading and it has really helped with his speech. Just looking to meet others in same situation. Hugs Denise

hey, Denise, I just joined autism support today because of the horrible experience you read about. But Evan is also hyperlexic. He's been reading since age two.
I think it's wonderful, children with hyperlexia are genuis-y people. My dad, my brother, and my son, all hyperlexic. My son also has always had perfect comprehension of what he was reading, no matter what his age. I have a hilarious picture of Ev on our fridge, butt nekkid, spelling the word, "OPEN" in fridge magnets, when he was barely two. I also have a picture of him lying on his back on our couch, perusing a mystery novel, when he was about four. :)
