Career?!

Hi,
I am new here and just joined this great support group :-)
I have HH since I am about 16 years old, it started in the arm pits, for the last few years or so I also sweat excessively on my palms and soles (I'm 27 now). Drysol helped me a lot in the armpit area, but when I used it on my palms and feet, the skin got very irritated.
My topic is "career", because this issue really hinders me going up the career ladder. I cannot go to any business meetings or networking events, because I just cannot shake other people's hands. I tried it with a paper towel in my handbag, but that does not really work either. Should I try the mild version of Drysol? I fear that it will not work at all. My clothes under my armpits are mostly dry, but my armpits are still slightly wet so I think the mild version for palm and soles will not work at all?! Any suggestions?
Sometimes I really wish I could just have this surgery and get rid of it... but I am too scared of the surgery itself plus I read that some people just start sweating on other body parts.
Thank you for reading my post :-)

" I am new here also. I was born with hyperhydrosis. A couple of years ago, I had the ETS surgery. My hands and armpits do not sweat as bad anymore, but my feet still do. And yes, I do sweat in other areas of my body (like my back and the thigh area) but based on the quality of life that I have now, I would not have the surgery undone for anything. It is unfortunate that I had to wait until I was 30-something to change my life so drastically. I think that I could have done more with my life had I have been able to shake hands also. I wrote a book about my experiences, up to and including having the ETS surgery done. If you would like to read it, I think it would be of help to you. Hang in there. "

" Is your book published? If so, what's it called? "

" no, it is not published as of yet. I have not had the money to publish it. I did not realize how much it would be, and I have been laid off since March, so cannot afford it yet. The book is called Living With Hyperhydrosis. "

" I am a 47 year old woman and have had to live with this as well. I get so bad that the sweat will rain out of my body especially in the stomach and under the breasts. The other areas also sweat profusely but not as bad as the stomach. Most of mine is stress triggered. Since I've been under less stress and demands I have gotten better. I had to end my career though. I could not handle it anymore, it was to mentally and physically disabling for me to continue. My body was breaking down, I had no choice. I still do not work, I'm to afraid of being around people and I feel I have to relearn how to socialize again. I to have not had the opportunity to have the surgery. No doctors have really given me the time of day with this because it was stress/work related. I'm hoping that the doctors and disability will work with me now that the company is no longer involved, we shall see. I do take adivan occasionally for my anxiety when it gets high and it does offer some relief. I would be interested in reading the book as well. "

" chelsadabomb, have you looked into self publishing? There are sites like lulu.com where you can publish 1 or 1 thousand books. I'm sure folks like us would buy it and find it useful.

Thanks for sharing your story about your surgery. I would really like to have the freedom that you've found. Can you please share with us the costs. Did your insurance pay for it? "
