I hate my life. Hyperhidrosis makes me feel so disgusting. I can't wear nice clothes, nice shoes, hold anyone's hand or sometimes pick up a pen without it slipping out of my hand.
I feel so alone, so fed up of being distressed and having no one to talk to. I would love it if someone could share their experiences with me. I'm a 15 year old girl, and sometimes I feel suicidal because of hyperhidrosis. I've had blood tests, appointments with doctors, and I'm doing everything I can to stop it, but nothing seems to be working. Has anyone got any tips? Thank you so much, and I'm so sorry for moaning and going on. x Posted on 06/18/09, 06:06 pm |

I'm sorry to hear that you are experiencing it so young. I started to get hh when I was in my late 30's, early 40's. I believe mine started due to my job, I was under extreme stress and anxiety for so long that the hh kept getting worse and spreading to other areas of my body. I tried botox but it was basically useless for me, it didn't last long enough to make it worth it. I have severe whole body hydrosis now and it just keeps going and spreading. I'm still under a lot of stress and anxiety though so it isn't going to get any better for me until some of the stress is gone. I notice that when I am away camping by myself or under no stess, it goes completely away. Then when I leave and go back home to my life, it's starts immediately. Mine pores out of my body like rain and totally soaks my clothing even jeans. I know what it's like not being able to wear nice clothes, be around people, etc. I've been trying to get help for it but it's not easy. I know someone your age who elected to have the surgery but I'm not sure if she would suggest it,it didn't sound like it to me. she has back pain/problems now I guess. Hang in there, relax and take it easy. There are some deodorants that work very well or prescriptions if you need it for under the arms. I used to use them when it was only under the armpits.

Hi, I know exactly what you're suffering with. I have the same problem. nice clothes, going out, socializing, looking good and having any confidence are a thing of the past for me, as I'm suer you can identify with.
Today, I bought a new product called Odaban. I'm praying this one will work. I haven't tried it yet so let's not hold our breath, but every review that I've read on it have declared it "life changing" and "marvelous". I'm hoping it works this way for me. Maybe you should try it? http://www.odaban.com/ < that's the site. Also, have you considered going to the doctor? It can help things. They can tell you where to find the right stuff and how to stop the condition getting the better of you. Personally, I haven't had the confidence yet to go to the doctors. But if you can muster up the courage to do so, it could really help you. I wish you luck, Kate. x o x o

Hey Hannah. Whatever you're going through, you're not alone. I have sweaty hands and feet. I've gone through this cursed hyperhidrosis experience my whole life and it has prevented me from truly becoming who I want to be in life. The earliest experience I had was back in grade school (age 9 or so), we were drawing but my teacher noticed me profusely sweating, so she suggested going to cool myself down in the sink, but it never stopped the sweating. I also dreaded dances, I could never hold hands with anyone, it's so embarrassing and I feel so humiliated when someone catches a drop of my sweat. And that's the thing, I loved to dance, but I could never do this with anyone. I loved to learn to play instruments, but back in music class I would always soak up the keyboards, and once in a guitar performance infront of a class, it was such a disaster where the sweat was dripping all over the guitar. Since then I've never wanted to play an instrument infront of people. I'm not sweating at the moment because I'm ultra relaxed, but as I'm writing this recalling all my dreadful experiences I feel the sweat coming on, but I'm trying to suppress it. It's such a battle when you're fighting against it, but always losing. I've had a lot of trouble at jobs where I cannot at any moment not have tissues because I don't want the PC keyboard/mouse getting soaked, my keyboard is constantly getting dirty because as I sweat, the dead skin from my hands deposits in the keyboard which makes for a disgusting mess. I hate my life too, trust me on that, I have no idea what to do because I feel like we are a minority that has no control of this. We are restricted so much from everything, I feel my personal/social life suffers the most because I am a peoples person, but I can never get too close to anyone because I don't want to smother them in sweat. My personal space is always equipped with stuff such as towels and socks. I have to wear these socks in bed cos I hate the feeling of soaking my bed as well.......... I really hate this. And I know this might sound cliche, but let's be strong together! I DO know what you're going through, we've both suffered enough, and it will continue to be a part of our lives but at least we're not alone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hello hannah, and all hh people =) i suffer from hyperhidrosis too. My hands, feet and underarms sweat. and i guess it began when i was like 9 or so..
Anyways, i won't recommend that u get surgery at the moment. I haven't done it either. I think its too dramatic, and its not 100 % sure that sweating will go away, you will just sweat on some other parts of your body.. and there are lots of things u could try first. My experience with meds is: driclor doesn't work (for me). I have tried this roll-on "perspirex" and it works 95% on my underarms. so now I don't sweat as much there.. My hands and my feet are my bigges problem at the moment. They sweat when im nervous, and when i am NOT nervous. They sweat when its hot AND when its cold. It irritates me very much. And u see, im a singer, or at least im trying to be. But confindence is an issue because i develop stage fright and fear of socializing because of my sweaty palms. =S Right now, I am trying acupuncture. It's this ancient chinese method, which cures so many diseases. I am on my second week, which means I've been at the clinic twice so far, so i havent noticed any change YET. When I do, I'll let the whole wide world know! =D Im sorry if i talk (write) too much. I just love the feeling that i am NOT alone in this problem. And if u ever want to exchange experiences or just talk, im here. Anyone suffering from this heartless condition, im here. Mail me: twinstar88@live.dk or mssg me here! =) ---- YOU ARE NOT ALONE.

Hi!
I read your post and although it was months ago I am hoping you are still checking the responses. I suffered the exact same thing at the same age and it was awful! I have the same issues with certain clothes being off limits and feeling isolated. I have tried an oral medication that has worked WONDERS! For the first time since I can remember I can wear flip flops and not squeak, slip or slide anywhere. It is called glycopyrrolate (generic form of robinul). There are some possible side effects so a doctor visit is necessary but it is amazing. I have coupled my treatment with therapy to deal with the anxiety and fear that has built up over the years about the condition which tends to make it worse. I hope this helps you and let me know I can answer any questions for you! KLynn

Hi there,
When I read that first post, I had to create an account and respond. I am 26, and I have suffered from hh my entire life. I can remember as far back as age 5, when I had to write a paper in class and I sweat so bad that I made holes in the paper and the teacher made me write it again because "she couldn't accept a paper like that". I understand completely how you feel, and I'm sorry nothing has worked for you. I once had a doctor who gave me this powder to put on my hands, wrap them in plastic wrap, and put socks over them at night. It did nothing, of course, and it was pretty ridiculous. I sweat profusely on my hands, feet, and underarms. The way I see it, is that I could be afflicted with any number of horrible things, and if the worse thing I've got is that I sweat a lot, it stinks, but it could be worse. I know how hard it is, and there are some days when I stand in front of the closet for a long time deciding what I can wear that won't show my sweat stains so badly, and it's incredibly irritating... but just remember, you can get through it. I made it through college, despite the sweaty papers, and I'm sure that you can too. Hang in there :-)

Try a pill called Oxybutynin. This works. Without a doubt. It's actually a drug for people that have an overactive bladder, but some of the side effects directly affect hyperhidrosis. It makes you kinda dizzy, your mouth gets dry, and your body STOPS sweating for almost the whole day depending on which kind you take (the regular form, liquid form, or extended release). So if you can handle the dizziness, please try it.
I love to draw and write and play guitar, but before, I could never do anything as well as I knew I could. My sweaty hands kept me from going after the girls I was interested in and I've never had a lot of friends. But since I started taking this medicine, I can shake hands, woo girls, and create to my heart's desire! :D I am up to two pills a day instead of just one, but I honestly think it's worth it. Good luck with yours, Hannah. And remember to smile. ^^ It's a good alternative when you don't want to shake hands.
