Hyperhidrosis remission??? Is it possible???

I started seeing symptoms of Hyperhidrosis when I was appx. 12 years old. I would sweat excessively in my underarms, palms and hair line while in the cold or without any activity at all. I would be desperately thirsty drinking 2 to 3 gallons of water a day, NO EXAGGERATION. Fearing I would "drown" myself drinking so much water my mother brought me to a doctor. The doctor said that it seemed to be hyperhidrosis, there was nothing that could be done about it, try a different anti-persperant. So we tried everything.....nothing worked. Well as years went by I learned to live with it and around age 15 I also noticed that my sweating went away. I was still imensely thirsty and always kept water at my side but besides when in extrenneous activity, I never sweat as bad as I had.
At 21....still thirsty 24-7 but I haven't sweat like my teenage years at all. THEN, about two weeks ago the temperature finally dropped down into the 60's in my area. And all of the sudden I noticed myself sweating through everything. Nothing about me changed...the only correlation I can see is the temperature drop. I am curious, is it possible for hyperhidrosis symptoms to go into a "remission" where they are not as severe or even cease to exist entirely and then have the symptoms flare back up for no reason?? I am quite puzzled as well as frustrated. I knew I still had hyperhidrosis but I feel like I'm 12 yo again when I hate getting dressed in the morning because I know I'll be changing soon anyways...be nervous to take off my jacket when I'm not. I am almost hoping there is another reason for my sweating and it is just coincidence that I have hyperhidrosis. Does someone know?????????????????????? Thank you! Posted on 11/03/08, 11:11 am |

I've had it most my life, in the winter it was manageable. For some reason when I was with my girlfriend it was never a problem. But under certain circumstances, stress, public speaking, the thought of shaking someone's hand, it became very hard to control.

I wish we could control it. I did have it, axillary, for a while as a teenager but then it went away. I was most likely stressed then even if I didn't know it. It quit until I reached late 30's early 40's then as the stress grew so did the hydrosis and I've dealing with it ever since.
Temperture seems to not to matter for me. It can be winter, I'll have goosebumps but still be sweating. It's very frustrating. It seems to be stress related for me but I don't know anymore.

I joined this group as an outsider, someone who doesn't have this problem. But someone who can whole heartedly relate. I had the ETS Surgery 5 years ago. My life is different now, I don't have this uncontrolable response to stress (that ususally would lead to me being embarassed and/or ashamed of myself) Ironicly I have to put lotion on my hands every few weeks because they get so dry.
If this ever gets out of control for you please take comfort in knowing that there is a true fix to this problem. If anything you should consider yourself special, the extra moisture provided to your skin keeps it healthier, softer, supple and more youthful. (I always had the softest hands)
