Anyone here diagnosed as a teen?

Hi everyone,

I'm new here. I'm 22 years old, and have an ETV. My last surgery was last year, and was a revision ETV, since the one from 2004 failed. I was hoping I could find some support and maybe answers here.

Was anyone here diagnosed as a teenager or young adult? My neurologist calls it SHYMA (Syndrome of Hydrocephalus in Young and Middle-aged Adults), a term he coined. I was diagnosed when I was 17, but they think it may have been developing since I was very young, or possibly since birth.

Just wondering if there's anyone else like me out there.

Amber

" I was diagnosed at 1 week old due to a congenital brain bleed... my hydrocephalus is considered congenital since it was caused by a medical problem present at birth. I was also born 3 months early, weighed 1.5 pounds, and was 8 inches long. "
