Medical alert id

I'm curious, does anyone wear any form of medical alert ID for shunt. I wear a medical alert watch with Italian charms. I had custom charm made with hydrocephalic w/shunt engraved. It recently broke and I'm wondering if it is necessary to wear one? I feel that the more information available the better it will be in case of emergency. I also have charms for Bipolar and penicillin allergy, despite the fact my family disagreed about bipolar, i'm not ashamed.

" I think it's important to have some indiction that you have a shunt. I have a not in ICE file on my cell phone. But, I'm also looking into getting a card to keep in my wallet. We're at points in our lives where we're not always with family, friends or someone who knows our condition. We need to keep ourselves safe. It's extra thing to do but, ya never know when it'll come in handy. "

" I did the same as feesh. I have a note in my ICE. I also have a card given out to me from my college that has all my medical problems on it. But I don't always carry around my wallet. So the ICE is the best choice I think. "

" Unlike the previous 2 members, I've had a medical ID that says my name, hydrocephalus, 2 VP shunts, no allergies on it... It's saved me a few times already since I've had it. It just looks like a sport band. It's not the regular metal ID bands... I think it's important for someone to at least know about your hydrocephalus "

" I wear a medical alert bracelet. It says Hydrocephalus/shunt and also lists my allery to Penicillin. I like wearing it because if I am ever in an accident and unable to communicate it alerts people to my medical issues. "

" I just got a MedicAlert bracelet recently. I wear it all the time so that if I ever was unable to give the medical personnel my medical information, they would be able to access it. I think this is especially important for me because I have an ETV, not a shunt. So unless they knew about already, they might mistakenly think that my hydrocephalus was untreated.

I'm also in the process of creating a DPAHC (durable power of attorney for health care) which gives my parents the legal power to direct my health care in the case that I am unable to do so. I am 22, so if I didn't do this, there might be legal obstacles to this. I'm doing my best to be proactively involved in my own health care. "

" All I have is a card in my wallet that lists all my medical conditions and medications as well as all my doctors. Maybe I should get a bracelet that says "look in the wallet". I started carrying one due to asthma and my inability to speak during an attack but I would agree that they are vital to all serious health conditions.
Do EMT personnel automatically check your billfold? If so, then I'm OK. "
