Has anyone had shunt malfunction brought on by flu? I have ended up in the hospital having surgery in the past and now have to get flu shots yearly. I wondered what others have experienced.

I've had flus, chest colds, and regular colds and those infections never caused my shunts any harm. I've had 2 VP shunts revised 26 times (had 29 surgeries in all) since I was born. Hope this helps! I just got the swine flu vaccine about a week ago, but I only did it because I work with elderly people a lot so I want to protect myself to protect them.

i used to get a lot of colds and flu's but since getting the yearly flu vaccine I've hardly had any colds but when i do they never affect my 2 VP shunts in any way just gave me an awful headache also I'm debating whether or not to get the swine flu vaccine as it hasn't been fully researched here yet(I'm in the UK).Since I'm an unemployed pediatric nurse and i volunteer with disabled children i guess it's a blessing that i don't get many colds.
