hiya im new to the site my 5 yr old son was diagnosed with hydrocephalus 2 days ago we are currently waiting for an appointment to see a surgeon only im not sure what it is my sons consultant just kept using big words but to me she could have been speaking a different language if anyone could help trying to explain it to me that would be a great help x

" hydrocephalus is pretty much a build up of cerebrospinal fluid in the ventricles of the brain, causing pressure. a shunt is inserted into the brain that leads to the abdomen to drain the fluid. once you meet with the neurossurgeon you can ask them any questions you have. does the doctor know if your son was born with hydro? "

" they arnt sure how long hes had it they sent him for an mri to check for scarring of the brain as they thought he had cebral palsey but they found alot of fluid in the ventricles thats all the consultant told me on the phone now i just have to wait for an appointment to see a surgeon and hopefully it will come soon xx "
