" DO ! NOT! GO! THERE! !! there is no point in depression & it will not help you in any situtation. the more positve you are the better your prognosis no matter what the situtation. do not look for an excuss look for the beatuy in all that is around you i know it is not easy to look past so much ugliness in the world today but there is more beauty out there than you realize, you just have to look for it. every one's symptoms are unique to them no two people are alike and neither are there symptoms or their onset. " ...I agree...my wife helps me because she can read a face like no other...I can't hide it from her...but it's good for me because if something happens during the day she can tell and then helps me deal w/ it... "

" Depression is usually NOT based on what is going on around you---that is what I would call unhappiness, because, basically, we're not happy with the cards we have been dealt. But unhappiness can be resolved by doing other things that make you happy.
Depression is a much, much darker issue. Depression is caused by chemical imbalance in our body, perhaps due to TOO much stress which causes our cortisol levels to bottom out, and if the stress continues your cortisol levels will not have a chance to bounce back to normal in between stressful periods of time.
Many people without HD suffer from depression. I do believe that depression is one of the chemical imbalance that HD causes and I also believe that HD causes unhappiness in a persons life---put those together and you could possible have a lethal combination. In the case of my husband, who has HD, he lost his job as a results of HD, he felt lost, I had to find a job for the first time in 20 years of marriage, I was a stay at home of 6 mom for 20 years. This caused him great unhappiness, but then a bad combination of medications AND trying to self medicate with taking more of this med and less of this med, he caused a major depression vortex. He did not actively attempt suicide, but he would have if my children had not called me at work to tell me how bad their daddy was crying. I immediately sought help for him, he went into a treatment center for about a week, stabilized his medication, received counseling and he left feeling better.
Don't ignore the depression, depression is NOT a weakness, it is something that you cannot control without medication even if for just a short time while you adjust to the changes HD has brough about. If you feel sad, very sad most of the time, you are not interested in those things you used to do, or have given up on going out because you "just don't feel like going out", or you sleep a lot or cannot sleep, you may be suffering from depression. Check with yor doctor immediately.
Let me remind you that depression is NOT a sign a weakness, mentally, is does not make you insane or a mental case. It is a very real physical illness. "
