Diploma ~VS~ GED

Educate me please. It is my understanding that home schoolers receive a GED when they complete their studies. From what I have read, a GED is not really equavilant to diploma. The article said that people with GED's are less likely to be considered for jobs, they are less likely to graduated college and overall they get paid less. I don't understand this since it's not like they were in high school and dropped out to get the GED.

Thanks.

" make sure you go with an ACCREDITED place this way they get there diploma thru them. Right now my daughter is going thru A Beka if she continues thru 12 yrs they issue her an diploma for this. But if you go thru one that isnt accrediated they will have to take a G.E.D. test "

" I am guessing that the stats you have found are based on people who dropped out of high school, not neccessarily to homeschool and perhaps have personal problems that result in not being motivated? In all of the people I have met who have dropped out of high school, GED and college are not what they are thinking of when they drop out, homeschooling neither. That is what I am thinking. Usually homeschooled kids do better than average in college for various reasons. GED is just another test to prove yourself to somebody else. Make sure your homeschooled child is following their passion and doing their best and they will excel. That is what I think. "

" Most places love to have a homeschooler even with a GED. When my older two have looked for jobs or to further their education, everyone loved that they were HS. Most HS kids are more balanced and have good time management skills. A plus in many work places.

My daughter has been looking into joining the Army for a variety of reasons. She did find out though that next year the Armed Forces will not be accepting anyone with a GED. You will need an actual diploma to enter the Army, etc. I think there should be a little box that says that this person was HS.

" Give our child the best! Go for a High School diploma. There are all kinds of online sources where your child can take the test, or have them send you the test to finish at home. "
