I started kindergarten with them she will be in first grade next yr. She is a straight A student so far. My problem is me. They have made this so stressful I can't beleive it. I must homeschool for her health, she will need a new liver. But between the memory which gets worse, and all the grades one for them and one for me, and the progress reports, and all the dvd's this is amazing I have hair left. My grandson is there in first grade I see what that will be memory work of chapters, this takes 4 hours a day and she drags it into 5 and 6 wait till next yr and then as if thats not enough there is homework so there is more time away from the rest pls help me this MUST be accredited school. thank you Pat---Raggy1

I have a daughter in 3rd grade. This yr we did the Abeka books and I loved it. I would be interested to hear about your daughters memory wk because we had spelling/vocab words and 1 to 2 short poems every 2 months. About every 3 months they suggested memorizing a HUGE bible verse from the King James Bible (which I used the NIV, KJ was to hard for a 9 yr old to understand) I decided to make that our bible study and insted of memorizing it we read it everyday and talked about what it ment and what God is trying to say to us in that verse.
I was thinking of doing to DVD 2 program next yr. We belong to Columbia Vertual Academy so I just need the DVD's. Have you tried talking to anyone at Abeka? Every time I have called with a ? (I had lots this yr. it was my first yr homeschooling) they were a huge help.

They memorize just verses this yr and that they all start with the letters of the A B C 's but if we go with the book it isnt accredited you have to use the dvd's and the book for this. And so far me and my grandson(first grade) A Bekea has told us if they dont pas the bible then thhey wont even grade the other papers. My daughter has 20or more papers to do a day this yr. and her work is out of site. So I am a little scared cause mine has a liver problem and when the toxins build up her behaviour starts getting bad but I never know if it is her liver or her just not wanting to do the work untill the dr draws blood work.

we opted not to go w/ the program where you mail in work and progress reports, and such. It is such a lot of work and it sounds like you are going crazy. We go at our own pace and she is still keeping up w/ the work. She knows it as well as those who use your method.
I agree that you should call ABEKKA for some assistance and determining what would be best for your situation. I asked them a lot of questions when I started out. They said both programs are good and get the children where they need to be educationally. the program you are in is to help you keep track of grades and such so you don't have to do it. If the one we are using is not a good one, they wouldn't offer it. I could never do the one you are using b/c I am not very reliable when it comes to being so strict about getting things in and would be more concerned about dead lines that teaching her would be a mess and ineffective. I was concerned about her getting into college if we didn't send report cards and things in..apparently, w/ homeschoolers, many colleges look esp. at national test like the CATS and later, the GED. The results on the national tests gives them a much better idea of a students abilities, and what they have learned. My daughter used to do low on those tests in school, this year she got a 90% on the CATS test (the same test the kids in school take) Have you looked at what your state expects. from the h.schoolers? The people at ABEKKA helped me a lot in deciding what to do, I was very concerned what would happen if she wanted to attend college. Have you ever been on "AskPauline'? it is very good w/ great advice and goes over the different state and the laws, etc. a lot of people I know use it... In pa, at the end of the year, we take all her work to the school distric evaluator of our choosing who looks at it, determines if all classes and progress in various areas have been met. They sign off on it and it gets sent to the school district. We now live in NJ and you don't even have to alert anyone you are h.schooling. National Test scores are very important. If you are concerned about documentation, you can have your child take the CATs test at the end of every year even if it only required for the different age groups. This is what I am doing to make sure she is where she is supposed to be. I think it's wonderful what you are doing and I pray you will get guidance on what is best for both of you.
