Hi there. Has anyone used the Ace Paces? This is what our children are doing in their private school right now and I do not like it.
Wondering if others have had problems with these?
Thanks, Jo

" Well, when I was younger and home schooled my mother had made an attempt to put me in a private school, and the curricula they used was the Pace programs/books. Personally if you are going towards teaching your kids about 'God' and practically nothing else, I would recommend it, but if your going towards a more academic program, Pace is probably not what you want. " I personally have not used it. The reason that I have not is: I researched MUCH curriculum before I settling upon what I was going to be using. Everyone shied me away from Pace. Plus I went through sample packets of curriculum. The only thing that I really remember, that I guess could be on the positive side, would be; 1)they teach about God (but so does others IE a beka, rod & staff, alpha omega) & 2)it's easy to teach to a group of children.
I would be a lot more worried about my child's academics though! Good luck & God bless your family! "

" I saw pace at a convention and I wasn't crazy about it. I cant remember exactly why, I think I liked the concept but somehow the actual lessons looked like they would not appeal to my kids. "

" I see that this is an old discussion but thought I would add my 2 cents anyway! :)

I am beginning my fourth year using the ACE curriculum with my 5th grader. He loves it and I love it! He truly has shown great retention of the academic principles taught in the curriculum as well as many wonderful character skills.

I have four children and will most likely use ACE for all of them. The little ones see my oldest doing his schoolwork and beg to be able to do school like him! In my opinion, that says volumes - because if he didn't like it, even if he didn't say it, you know how little kids pick up on those undertones and I think they wouldn't want to touch it with a 10-foot pole.

I am currently doing an article series on my blog regarding ACE and how we use it and how it has benefitted our family.

Thanks!

" I had a friend who used the paces both in pvt school and then at home. They worked well for her. They did NOT for me. My kids would NOT sit still that long.

I believe a LOT has to do with learning styles. I, personally, would not be able to hack the paces curriculum. I am a kinesthetic and olfactory learner. :P

To help your son out, I would go online and study different learning styles and it might be a real eye-opener as to WHY the PACE curriculum doesn't work for him. I took a seminar on learning styles and WHAT AN EYE OPENER!!! I wish another one would come around here - I'd love to review it all!

I know why pvt schools use PACES, but that doesn't make them the best way to learn, on ly the best way to teach. I did use it for one subject each year sometimes just for "variety" in my curriculum. The children had no problems doing it for just one subject. "
