Hi Everyone: I am new to this group. I have a passion to help those who are homeless. I have been homeless and I remain that one paycheck away. I am fortunate that during this last time of homelessness (yes, there has been several times) I found my calling. I am the Shelter Manager of a homeless shelter. I have done my job since 2000 and I wouldn't change careers now for anything. I have joined to help find resources and just be encouraging to anyone who needs it.

Hi Rags and welcome.
I have also experienced homelessness (twice, once for several months), and was faced with it recently and many times prior. I am so very grateful to not be homeless presently, but the rain and cold this week had reminded me again today. I am so grateful to have shelter and food especially! Although you seem to be VERY well-equipped, but if ever I may offer some suggestions to you in your efforts, I want to invite you to email me. If not, I want to simply extend the simple grace of acknowledgment and reinforcement for your efforts. Sadly, homelessness has increased (considerably, according to NAMI). My sincere prayers to you, and to any and all who are, have endured, or are faced with homelessness. God bless!

I am in yet another circumstance where, once again, I may lose my apartment. I won't go back into the shelters. Winter is coming and I will try, if necessary, to find a room for rent or a hotel room.
I AM PETRIFIED! If I become homeless at 20 below, I will freeze to death!

I was homeless between July and November several years ago, but not in the Winter.
I will try to find a hotel...maybe find one that offers a monthly rate. Or maybe a room for rent. I can't be outside in the wintertime! I won't survive out there! I hate this!

Hi Phloxinsox,
If you are having difficulties with rent or utilities you could try your local United Way, (211) Salvation Army or St.Vincent DePaul's in your area if they are available. They are good at helping people overcome emergency situations. Also, since its still the first week of the month they might still have funds, since the first two weeks of the month is usually the best time to call. I know its tough. Try to hang in there.
