need help... question about where to be homeless

I'm about to become homeless because I'm $40K in debt and don't have any income or savings. I have been tempoarily living off of credit cards for last three months thinking I would by time until something came up. It isn't coming up and I'm at my end. I need to move out of my apartment and I don't have anywhere to to go, and noone I can rely on for help.

I have never been homeless before. I'm a 42 year old male. I have I think a disability because my right hand is smashed up. I have been working desk jobs my adult life and can type with the hand but I can't much do anything else with it.

I don't know what to do at this point. I guess I'm going to be homeless and was hoping someone may have some insight into where in the country is the best places to be homeless at? I don't think Seattle is a very good place because the authorities and locals really don't sympathize well to a homeless persons plight.

Regards...

" I'm really sorry to hear about your situation Three socks.

My best advice would be to start looking into places for help now because most organizations that help people usually have the most resources personal or financial around the first of the month or within the first two weeks of the month. Not to mention some of the waiting lists to get help could be long.

Do you have any organizations like the United Way or a number for resources like 211 that would be able to help you? Is there any type of Red Cross, St. Vincent de Paul's or Salvation Army that might be able to help. Out here some orgs like St. Vincent's can help people once the already have a shut off notice or an eviction notice. Depending on area some of these places also offer fee hot meals and sometimes free clothes and toiletries to people who have no where to go for lunch or sometimes dinner.

Also are there any local churches or family resource centers in your area that could help you? Some churches here where I am run shelters and half way houses for men in crisis.

If there are no shelters in your area you could try to google search help resources for you state and see what state orgs there are that could offer you assistance.

In addition, depending on when you have to actually move are there any assets that you have that you could liquidate like DVDS, books, clothing etc. for cash or for gas money if you have a car.

Since Federal Poverty Guidelines vary from state to state, and every state and/or city has different laws regarding homelessness and/or loitering off hand I can't think of anywhere where it would be easier to be homeless and trying to rebuild.

Out here the problem w/ a lot of shelters is that they they are often overcrowded and only offer you enough room for sleeping on a small bed and for maybe one small suitcase of clothing depending on how large the shelter is, the larger it is the less space you have.

Most of the shelters out here also have curfews where you have to been in by 8 or 9 and up and out between 6 and 8 in the morning. Some even want actual proof that you are looking for a job every day while other shelters only let you stay only up to six months before letting you go whether you have a job or not..

Also, are there any temporary employment agencies in your area that could help? I'm not sure what the technical term is but some of the employment agencies offer days work, where they provide you w/ transportation to a job site to work for a few hours or all day depending on the job and they deduct small fee for transportation cost from your check or they cash they give you.

Good Luck. I hope that things work out for you :) "

" *2-1-1: This should be your first contact and as soon as possible! They are your one stop place for assistance. They will be able to connect you with the resources in your area.

*Saint Vincent De Paul Society of Seattle: (206) 767-6449 (can help pay the bills and/or provide temporary hotel)
*Salvation Army: 1020 4th Ave. Seattle (206) 628-0593--homeless shelter and financial assistance
*Crisis Clinic/ Coalition for Housing (206) 461-3222--can provide advocacy and financial assistance
*Aloha Inn: transitional housing for homeless men and women:206) 283-6070 - This is a place that you can stay temporarily, but they will help you get on your feet, find a job, and begin saving for your own place.

I hope this helps! I can only imagine the stress that you are going through facing such a situation. If you ever need to talk, please feel free to contact me.

You will be in my prayers!
Denise "

" Has anyone ever wondered about the existance of demons and their influence on living mortals? I have been recently. I got 2 in-person interview requests and I haven't had any for probably 3 months. My car breaks down the day before I get these calls. It is in the shop now and they keep tacting on hundreds of dollars on to the cost of fixing it and they can't even tell me after $800 whether it will be fixed after they do those things. I had to miss one interview and can't tell them when I can have it rescheduled. I have the other interview scheduled for Friday but don't know if I will have my car back to get there. If you reading this your probably thinking can't you borrow a car from a friend or family? That answer is no because I have no family here and no friends. Can't you take a bus? The answer is no because no buses go to those areas. Can't you rent a car? Can't you take a taxi? No, because the locations are 30 miles away and I don't have that kind of money. The answer is no, because at $100 a day I don't have the money to rent. My life is cursed. Does anyone know how to perform an exorsism? "

" Well it wasn't any more then 15 minutes from my last reply that I got a call from the garage and was told my car was ready to be picked up. It cost $600 but that is quite a bit less then my worst fears. I also have a concrete time for my in-person interview and no have a car to get there. Life is way to unpredictable :P. "

" Ok, Three Socks, the posters above have great suggestions. All of those organizations have resources to help you out and if you have 211 that is a great starting point. Also the Seattle Community Network has a great website www.scn.org and the Seattle homeless Coalition.

Also go to your local Career center run by the state. They can help you with your job search, interview prep, resumes, training etc. Most of them even have websites.

Reach out and reach up, you can turn this thing around!!! "
