I'll make my story as short as I can (despite a lot of facts needing to be stated)
I'm 37. Divorced 3x. Left below-knee amputee since March of 07. Only getting Disability (approx 700/mo). Back in Sept of 08, I was moving around a lil with a best friend of mine, we had rented a room from someone. SHe left PA for some California moron on the internet. I had to leave the room, rent was more than my income could handle. My credit is terrible, my rental history is bad, I have one eviction on the court records. As it stands, I am "renting" a room in my girlfriend's family's house. Her father opwns it, but doesnt live here, pays the bills. Her mother was living here, now in Assisted Living. He wants to sell the house as quickly as he can, and has told me to get out by next Monday, June 15th. Because of my income, credit, and rental history, an individual apartment is not possible, only renting rooms from other people is. Problem is, I will be homeless for 2 weeks! Here's the salt in the wounds. All calls to every shelter I could find proved futile. They all have on-street public parking, and my car is not inspected, nor is it insured. All shelters have an early evening curfew, and if I even am 5 minutes late to any of them,. I lose my spot. They also have a small waiting list. ONE shelter program told me I could enter their drug rehab program but would not be permitted to leave the building for 30 days. I am NOT on drugs, nor was I ever! Any County Funded program I apply to denies me either for credit or eviction reasons. All I need is a place to crash for TWO STINKIN WEEKS and on July 3rd, I should have a sleeping room at least, because I then get paid! I dont know what I am really asking for here, but if anyone in the Pittsburgh Area can help, please do so! I have $30 in the bank, and #20 in food stamps (oh yeah I get $83 in food stamps as well every month) Posted on 06/09/09, 01:48 am |

It's simple. Don't vacate the house you are in. You have tenant rights. Google PA tenant rights. I'm pretty sure the owner of the house can't physically force you to leave. He'll have to get a court order and that will take more than 14 days!
You'll have to be prepared for the owner to get in your face. Come up with a short sentence and just repeat it until he walks away in frustration. Do not engage in a confrontation with the owner. I'd say "I'm staying until July first when I get paid." and then, "I have told you, I am staying until July first when I get paid." No matter what he threatens just repeat that sentence. Assuming he calls the police (pretty likely) tell the police the same thing. You've exhausted all other means and you plan to leave. On July first. If you are unable to find PA's tenant rights on-line call the police Dept. They will know. Let me know what happens. GOOD LUCK! hugs Joanne
