I am home schooling for the first time. I have some good work going in most subjects, but I can't seem to get the social studies thing going. My son has ADHD and it's a challenge.

Any helpful hints and encouragement are so welcome!

" I too homeschool my ADHD child. There are may websites out there that can be helpful. Simply type the subject and grade level into your favorite search engine and go from there. Most sites have free stuff to print or even online activities. There is one site called sitesforteachers.com. It has hundreds of education websites that can be helpful. "

" Luckily Social Studies is a bit of a favourite for us. My son has autism. What about choosing a country and learning about it. Draw maps, use a world globe, atlas. Make costumes, toys, crafts from that country, cook a food from that country. Over here in Tasmania,Australia,we get a home education newsletter every 3 months and we can get some fantastic ideas from it. One family visited France one day. The dad arrived home from work and the mum and kids told him that they visited France for the day. They put up pictures of France, read about it,dressed up like the French. It was a fun day for all concerned. What about an excursion? I took my son to the Tasmanian Mineral Centre. The Hydro Hands on Centre for Science. It had wind turbines, machines and activities all designed to show how we get our power. These of course are over here, but I'm sure you would have places who would be willing to let you visit. I make lists regularly. I also phoned a variety of businesses and asked if they would be able to provide us with project material. One place was Tasmaid where milk is produced. I was sent a wonderful package of learning material about milk, from the farm to the fridge. Also Antarctica. I received an absolutely wonderful package including amazing posters which came in a post tube. We did learn about Antarctica. I'm sure there are many places you can think of. As I mentioned, write a list. The learning possibilities are endless. "
