Sunshine's UP: Neuropathy to NO feeling?
Watch this
View More Posts Ignore
Greetings and good evening! I'm going on Cycle 3B of chemo tomorrow. My neuropathy has been horrible since the first treatment I had back in July. The Neurontin seems to finally be working, but now what's getting on my nerves is the loss of feeling in a couple of my toes on my right foot. I was thinking it was my shoes, but now I'm certain I really can't feel them.

Any thoughts? I don't have a face-to-face appointment with my oncologist until November and I know I can always call my case manager works as his nurse practitioner, but knowing many of you are going through or have gone through what I'm going through is a comfort in itself. Y'all know what I'm talking about?

Jes me... Sunshine!

" Dear Sunshine,

I remember when my finger tips went numb and concerns grew if I would be able to still do my physical therapy thing. I found the guilty party to be the Vinblastine. Fortunately, all sensation has returned.
Are you being treated with ABVD?
Please keep your oncologist in the loop. He or she will be the best person to monitor your chemotherapy exposure.
I hope all goes well.
Warm regards, Mark "

" Greetings, Mark! I appreciate your reply and advice. I am being treated with ABVD; just finished Cycle 3B of 12 scheduled before radiation therapy yesterday and feeling pretty darn good. According to my oncologist, he advised me at our last appointment to continue with the Neurontin which I take 2 capsules (300 mg each) 3 times a day.

The tingling and/or numbness in my fingers is gone, just all of a sudden I can't feel a couple of toes in my right foot, but I do intend on calling my case manager. I figure things could be worse, but their not! Thanks so much for the support!

Take Care.
Miss Sunshine "

" Hello Little Miss S,
I'm very happy the tingling/numbness has been temporary. Sounds like you're staying positive which is more than 75% of getting better.
All the best, -m "

" Hey Sunshine! You might ask your oncologist about lowering the dose of the vinblastine. I believe he lowered mine by 2mg and it made all the difference in the world. It's clinically insignificant with regard to the potency to kill the cancer, but it really lessened my peripheral neuropathy. Just a thought. "
