Hodgkins Recurrence

Hello All.

I am a new member here so I thought I'd give my story thus far.

This is my second battle with Hodgkin's. I was initially diagnosed with Stage I after I found a lump in my armpit in July 2003. They treated it with radiation only and it went away. Last month I had a very vivid dream that my cancer had returned. When I awoke I started probing the nodes. When I felt the lump in my neck my heart sank. My doctor got me in right away and we had a PET scan done within days. It showed three more nodes in my groin. They did a biopsy on the node in my throat and put a porta-catheter in my chest during the same operation. The biopsy was just a formality I guess. Last week the diagnosis came back: recurrent Hodgkin's Lymphoma, Stage III. All along I had been hoping it was Hodgkin's because of the typically high successful cure rates that it enjoys. Still, having it come back has hit me hard. They started me on ABVD last week. I'll be doing a six-month twelve-cycle course (hoping and praying that it responds as it should). I'd love to hear from people who have done ABVD and get some insight into what I can expect as my body acclimates to this wonderful serum. I know it affects everyone differently, but there must also be some common threads.

" Everyone is different, but with today's medication you should be able to find an anti-nausea drug that combats the side effects. Make sure you let your doctor know if it is not working. There are so many options out there. I was allergic to a lot of the anti-nausea medication and they still found something that worked great for me.

ABVD is typically given in a 28 cycle on days 1 and 15. I found that by 5 and day 20 I felt considerably better. I found that going for walks after I had some of my strength back helped me recovery my strength even quicker. "
