my sis in law just got diagnosed with HL and is pretty scared. To compound the problem her insurance was gotten when she found the swollen lymph node on the side of her neck. Before she can be seen to even begin the consultation with the oncologist, they want the $7500 deductible, and even then, when that's met, she's responsible for 50% of the costs. How expensive does this get? (She's a hair dresser). Are there strategies we can use to negotiate with the insurance company to allow her to pay her deductible in installments while she begins treatment? Has anyone heard of them waiving the deductible? (That's what the insurance man told her when she bought it). Are there other insurance carriers she can pick up with this pre-existing situation? I don't have a clue and we're all in a tizzy. Can someone help? Thank you so much.

Quickly go to your state's social services office and request a form to apply for state insurance, if they have it. If not then move to California and find something like city hospital. Here in San Francisco , people without insurance go to General Hospital and although the money you owe keeps accumulating they give you all treatment and appointments you might need first.
Then, based on diagnosis, they make you apply for state insurance and/or disability, which may be covering all expenses. I recommend, if you're not from CA call San Francisco General hospital and find out if a person from another state can get treatment there. Or try to find a similar "poor people" hospital in your area. I've been through similar situation. I may ahve some advice. Don't hesitate to message me.
