Joint Pain

So I got my first treatment of ABVD 8/27/08. Thought I was going to be one of the ;lucky ones; who get no side effects. I left there feeling great. No side effects. I went home worked my tail off in the yard moving a rather large dirt pile and dug a few holes needed to build an addition on my garage. The next day I felt good too, continued work outside. Day two the side effects started. Also had a port placed on day two. The only side effect that bothers me still (day 7) is a severe joint pain in my left wrist (same side as my first treatment before I had a port). The pain is severe enough that I have not really slept more than a few hours since it started. Vicodin works but only if I take three, which usually makes me vomit. There are no signs of swelling, redness or other physical sign of issue. It feels like someone is driving a stake through my wrist. The only other thing that seems to work is heat. Lots of heat. My Oncologist is less than sympathetic. He says take a few Vicodin and that is really all that can be done. I am calling them again this morning. Anyone else have a similar problem and a solution? Thanks!

" So, you had one treatment IV before the port was placed, right? And the pain is on the same side as the IV? If so, I had the same thing every time I had chemo given through an IV in my arm. Sometimes the pain didn't start for 6 days after chemo too. It is the sole reason that I had a port placed! Once they stopped using my arms, the pain went away. It did take a good week and a half after the IV for it to go away completely. One of the drugs in ABVD is very irritating to the smaller veins in your arm. The larger veins don't get irritated as much when they use the port. Hopefully, now that you have the port, this problem will go away. With all that you have to deal with, you don't need that kind of pain on top of it! Good luck! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you! "
