Hives taking over

I have what's called Cold Urticaria. Which is when my body tends to breakout if I get too cold. About 2 years ago, I was in Mexico visiting my family, when I got sick. My cousin gave me some medicine and whatever it was made my body get hives. Well ever since then if I'm too cold, stressed, or my adrenaline is kicking in, I breakout. They say that I have to stay away from whatever causes my body to react that way but it's hard. I can no longer go swimming in a pool, or at the beach, I always have to carry a sweater with me in case, I can't wear shorts, skirts, or even nice tops for fear of breaking out. To me I feel it's not fair at all. Why am I not able to be normal and do things I once loved doing. If I take any form of anti-itch medicine (such as benadryl) I breakout in hives. In a couple of weeks I go see my primary and let her know that I want to see a specialist to find out what's causing it. But is there any other way to live life and not have to worry about the hives or no?

" Hi Lil,
I have the opposite to you. I have Solar Urticaria. I am allergic to the Sun. I can be exposed for more than 2 minutes without breaking into hives. I take 3 daily antihistamines and Plaquenil. This gives the ability to go into the Sun for about 3-5 minutes before hives start to break out. I have a very good friend with your condition and we call ourselves the Urticaria bros. I live in Melbourne Australia and we are coming into our summer. Last year wasn't fun when one day we had 47.5 Deg Celsius about 117Deg Fahrenheit.
I will talk to my friend to see what if anything he is taking to let him go into the cold.
Take care.
Nigel "
