hello all! i'm new here, but not new to hives!!! I've had them for 9 months now since I gave birth to my son back in December!!! I broke out really bad when I was 6 weeks post partum and have gotten them since! It started out maybe once a week with 1 or two bites/hives and then it went up to getting them 2 a week and now I get them everyday :( I wake up with them or after I'm awake for about an hour I break out! I have appt. with an allergist but I wanted to come here for some support! I've been freaking myself out thinking that these are bug bites! I have become obsessed thinking it could be scabies! I've had them biopsied and they came back hives! I just wish i kknew what was causing them! They start out as a tiny bump bite like and then when I scratch it it swells into a huge welt!!! i'm beyond frustrated and about to lose my mind!!!

I wanted to add that the hives usually don't last long and are usually gone within 12 hours!

First off, Welcome to the group! Sorry to hear they are driving you crazy, but that is what they seem to do to most of us. I take Zyrtec (antihistamine) once a day and no more itchy hives! I think I have them for two reasons, hormonal imbalance and sinusitis. Good luck at the Dr's. appointment! Chila : )

I've lived with hives since I was 13 off and on. I'm now 33. ANYTHING can be a trigger but I have given up on being a guinea pig and wasting time and money on finding out what causes it. I spent 3 nights in the hospital back in June because they were swelling my throat. The trigger was penicillin, something I had taken before. The nurse wanted to argue over whether it was hives or "just a rash" I gave her a piece of my mind. People (sepecially doctors) don't seem to care about the difference in a 1 time break out and living with it for most of your life. Before last June, my last episode started when I was 3 months pregnant with 3rd child 6 yrs ago. Thankfully it only lasted a few months. It went away after going to the ER and (while pregnant) given IV steroids and sent home with pregnisone, told to take 2 Zyrtec and benadryl as needed. That approach had little effect this time around so after 3 nights of IV steroids, benadryl, tagamet, and breathing treatments (Asthma can go along with hives)...I STILL break out everynight. I think there are 3 types of hives and I have experienced all 3. I am STILL taking TWO Zyrtecs, benadryl, and Tagamet everyday, still breaking out but not near as bad. This should be used as a military weapon because this is TORTURE! I've seen doctors in Vanderbuilt, Tn, had allergy testing (years ago) did I don't know how many crazy allegy DIETS. One even made me so sick that I just went on a hunger strike and didn't eat at all for almost a week and STILL broke out. Lots of things may be triggers but food is NOT the cause in my case anyway lol. Good luck and welcome to the group!

I see you mention that you have had them at the start at 13yrs old and when pregnant. Well I have heard that hormone fluctuations may be the cause of at least some of your hive problems! MY first time was several months after my first child and not again till after all my children were grown. I have not had an allergey test, I just take Zyrtec daily and they appear to stay under control. Good luck, wish I could be of more help. Chila : )
