Persistant/Resistant Hives

I have had hives before, so I'm aware of all they are about. But this time my hives seem to be more persistant/resistant. I started out on Reactine, but that wasn't enough. So I started taking Doxepin with it. But that wasn't enough. So now I'm taking Reactine, Doxepin and Zantac, and I am still getting hives in the evening and when I wake up. They do go away, and they are not nearly as bad as they are without meds. But they are still a barrier to my everyday life.
My doctor is going to refer me to a dermetologist, but I'm still waiting for the call to say I have an appointment. It could be months before I get to see anyone, and chances are my hives will be worse again by then. Everyone I talk to has no more answers for me, and I honestly don't know what my triggers are (besides my hair and NSAIDS [asparin, etc]). I get them EVERY DAY, so whatever it is I am exposed to it pretty much all the time (or there are several triggers). Either way, how do you figure out what it is and how to avoid it? There's just so much that could affect me. An allergy test is pretty much out of the question, because I can't last even a day without meds, let alone the 48 hours they usually require.
I'm at my ropes end. It's a struggle just to get out of bed in the morning, and I don't know how I'm going to manage anymore.
Anyone out there been in my shoes? Any advice, help, suggestions? Don't know where to go from here.

" Yes! Until I started taking Zyrtec everything made me miserable! Now only if I'm late taking it do I have any problems. I would never be able to take any allergy tests either. But I don't think an allergy test is going to help anyway. I have done an eliminating test with everything I could think of and still broke out! I think my body is fighting itself. Hope you find the help you need! : ) "

" I think Zyrtec is the same as Reactine. They are both cetirizine. When I've had hives before, Reactine on its own helped (as long as I took it every day). But this time it only helped for a while, and then my symptoms started getting worse. So I ended up on Doxepin as well. Which sort of helped, but then I started getting bad bouts again. So I went to my pharmacist and was put on Zantac with the other two. So far I'm just getting small bouts of hives. But I'm worried that they will come back again. It seems like my hives are resisting treatment, and I'm not sure that there is much more out there to combat my hives.
Anyone else have resistant hives? "

" Several things will cause me to get hives while on Zyrtec. Caffeine for sure has caused me to have more hives and then there are synthetics that cause problems, such as certain foams that i use on my mattress were bad and a blanket was making my feet itch. So I got an all cotton blanket and the itch stopped. Oh and don't forget things like chocolate have caffeine in it too. I love chocolate but try to limit consumption. I hope I have been of some help, let me know how it goes. : ) "

" I have even got to the point of not shaving for some days because of the massive breakouts I get once in a while.

I don't know about you guys, but I don't trust my doctor...

So far the only thing that has definately worked for me is prednisone...and you are not supposed to take that for more than 10 days.
