Advice:
Delayed Pressure Urticaria

I have had this problem for the past 9 - 10 years. I used to get hives every 2 -3 months now it is a daily problem. I have had hives everyday for the past 2 years. I just found this site tonight and hoping to find someone who can help me. I get hives from sleeping on my side, walking to long in the same shoes, sitting in a chair for too long without moving, I could go on and on. Has anyone found a solution for delayed pressure hives not a cure just a way to deal with then on a day to day basis? I am willing to try just about anything. My hands are always a huge hive from working, typing or shaking hands. My hives can last up to 48 hours and swelling is generally more than I can stand. I am at my wits end and just want to connect with someone who understands, I am boring my friends and family to death with cures, emails and doctors appts. Thanks for listening and so sorry this is so long.

" Hi Phyllis - yes we can all relate in some way. This is called Dermatographism. Don't even bother telling your family that one because they'll shrink away from you when you say it! HAHA!
Anyway....I keep mine under control with Zyrtek (or the generic of it - cetirizine) I still get the red marks from the pressure but usually don't itch with it. I've been back-n-forth with meds, but this is what is working for now. I also cut way back on caffeine because I found it definitely affects how the meds work or don't work.
Whatever you use ON your skin could provide temporary relief but in the long run it is only controlled by meds. No cure. No real answers to this. We just deal with it. My aunt had it before me and now my sister is developing it. It could run in families - maybe just coincidence? "

" Hi and welcome to the group! I also take Zyrtec, but not the generic cause I was reacting to whatever was used as it's filler. And since then, I have the marks less and no itch or mild itch. That's the best I have for now. No family members have it that I know of either.
Good luck and hope I've been of some help. : ) "

" Hi Phyllis - I am a 36 year old woman suffering from the exact same problem. I have a mickey mouse solution but it works for me - I try to avoid meds. I use Band-Aid Brand anti-itch spray. I find the hives on my feet are THE worst! I keep a bottle of this beside my bed and it helps. I have been to numerous specialists...tried the naturopath route too - no answers - no cure. I am on no meds of any kinds. I have always thought it could be a form of arthritis...or something chemical I am eating ...like diet coke. Hope you find some relief. "
