I saw the doc today.
Taking alternative things, my bad cholesterol has started to come down! Unfortunately my triglycerides went up a little, but that could be due to something else I'm trying for my Chronic Fatigue Syndrome that affects the adrenal glands. And also, I'm on the occasional dose of BHRT again (bioidentical hormones) which could also drive up the tri's. I got recommendations from my compounding pharmacist. She's going to look up more things with fish oil and guggul and see if we can figure out an OTC cocktail for me to take. I'd started on Red Yeast Rice on my own, but didn't continue as yeast and CFS aren't good friends. I was also taking Ayur-guggul which had worked in the past but I ran out and had another health issue and just never got more until March. My comp pharm had me try something called CHOLESTEROL SHIELD. http://www.enzymatictherapy.com/Pr... I only started it in late May, and my LDL came down to 190 from 203 in February. My HDL is good, 58, and my tri's are 164 which isn't awful but it shouldn't go up. So, I am HAPPY. I don't need to get my cholesterol down fast, I just need to keep it going that direction. DOWN. AND NO SIDE EFFECTS. Plus, have made minimal dietary changes. Can I get a YAY and a w00t???!!! Posted on 07/21/09, 01:07 pm |

I can't make major changes to my diet due to my CFS, so the CHOLESTEROL SHIELD is primarily responsible for the lowering.
My pharmacist is going to have me try adding EPA/DHA for the triglyceride trouble.

Oh, that's great - you go, girl!! My doc has me on Pravachol which did lower my total (249) and LDL (130) levels so he is happy...my HDL is up to 90 so I'm happy with that!
I'll have to check out that Cholesterol Shield - thanks for the tip!

This post is for those who can't tolerate any of the Rx medications due to the severe side effects.
