Lipitor Question

View More Posts Ignore
Hi everyone. I was trying to fight high cholesterol naturally with supplements, but when my blood was taken a couple of weeks ago my cholesterol went from 269 to 310. Obviously, the supplements didn't work. I am now on Lipitor for about a week and I'm finding my leggs feel very funny. They don't hurt; they just feel stiff, heavy, and very tired. Am I going crazy??? LOL Is this a side effect??? Also, should I stop this med??? Any advice would be extremely helpful.

" I have been doing the same thing. It appears to be like the "restless leg syndrome". I went off lipitor for 1 month and it went away. I started up again and after about 3 weeks I am doing it again. I am going in to see what my doctor thinks. I did read on a site that leg and muscle aches can be a side effect, so I may need to get on something else. I would suggest you contact your doctor. "

" I'm afraid to tell you that the leg problems you are having seems to be one of the many that are associated with cholesterol drugs.
I had a much more severe reaction.
Then I started to look for alternatives to these meds. I had used chelation therapy in the past and now have started with an oral chelator. As of two weeks into the therapy I'm feeling better than I have in years. I have more energy to the point that I'm over-doing things because my back problems won't allow me to do physical things.
Back to your situation. There are several different medications for cholesterol but I haven't heard good things about the side effects.
Sorry.
Sounds like you might want to contact your doctor...

" When you do talk to your doctor, suggest you try taking fish oil, or flax seed oil. My doctor feels that folic acid also helps control cholestoral. "

" Don't wait. Talk to your doctor immediately, if not sooner. Have you removed every trace of partially hydrogenated, hydrogenated, palm kernel, and tropical oils (except palm oil) from your diet? You need to do this along with the supplements to see an improvement. There are some other meds likd Zetia... If I ever get high numbers again I may be convinced to try it.... never statins for me again. Never. "

" I was on it for 7 years & the leg cramps at nite were somewhat tolerable, but the horrible unending fatigue that just kept getting worse & worse, has ruined my life.

While on lipitor, I slept until noon or later every day. I stopped taking it & w/in a week, I started getting up on my own between 7 & 9 every day. Went back on it 3 months later & started sleeping late again.

So, I've been off it for a year now and the only thing that has improved is that I no longer sleep until noon or 1 every day! I'm still too tired to think about doing anything, let alone actually do it.

So far, I've tried cholestoff (plant sterols) & fish oil. Plus I drastically reduced my intake of refined sugar & flour & products containing the same.

My overall cholesterol dropped 2 whole points. My HDL went up from 47 to 54. My LDL went up from 227 to 251 & my triglicerides dropped from 308 to 187.

Go figure.... I can't help but wonder if after getting off the lipitor if there wasn't some sort of rebound effect as my numbers skyrocketed.

I have tried the suggested dosage of COQ10 and haven't noticed any difference.

Interesting study being done by the University of California, San Diego

For now I am NOT going back on any meds. This is a personal decision, based on two things

1. drs in my area are only concerned with getting the numbers down, not w/how the drugs affect the patient (I've had FOUR drs blow off my complaints over the 7 yrs I was on it.

2. the damage it did to me that seems unrepairable. For me prolonging my life by a few years isn't really worth much if I spent the majority of my time sleeping. "

" Any Medication that is considered a STATIN, will cause muscle pains and aches.. It is best to stop the medication NOW and call your doctor tomorrow.
These pains can lead to serious issues down the road.
Take Care "
