Hi everyone.
I am new to this group as well as to high cholesterol, well sort of new to it.

I had a full hysterectomy in 2000 with removal of both ovaries, and since then I have had a really hard time taking any Hormone therapy at all.

With in a few months of the hyst I was diagnosed with high blood pressure and high cholesterol.

With exercising the high blood pressure went down and was in a good range, unless I was really stressed.

I just haven't been able to get my cholesterol under control, I am not sure what the level is. My family Dr. is not being very helpful to me, and it seems to be getting worse as the years go by. (my connection with my family Dr.)

Just this year I was diagnosed with fibro as well and she finally talked me into taking Simvastatin daily for the high cholesterol.

Ok my problem is that it's been just over 3 weeks of taking the Simvastatin, and I am having really bad muscle cramps and just sore muscles. I am all so getting a rash and my hot flashes seem to be a little bit worse. I am pretty sure it's the Simvastatin, the only other thing I have started new was a very low does progesterone cream made in a compounding pharmacy and I was using it for a week before I started the Simvastatin.

I am not sure what to do. The last time I made an appt. to see my family Dr. she didn't seem happy to see me. And this was after she told me I had a glucose level of 6.9 then after taking the Simvastatin for 2 weeks it went down to 5.6 and when I talked to her secretary to make an appt. to talk to about all this, I was told she didn't need to see me. I was like what do you mean, she doesn't want to see me and I was told yes.

I had been seeing her for over 20 years now and since the hyst, and me not being able to tolerate many prescription meds she doesn't seem to want to see me.

Sorry for the post and rambling, I am just very concerned about this and would appreciate any help or advice.

Thank and I hope everyone is doing ok.

Gentle hugs, Sherrall

" Inarah, You are 100% right on about doctors telling patients that the thyroid function tests are normal, when in fact they are not.
I hear about this happening alot, and it happenend to me!

I was severley hypothyroid and got told my thyroid tests were normal. They were not.
I had notably elevated TSH, Elevated Triglycerides at 1,040, and the doctor was scratching his head cause he couldn't figure it out. Makes you wonder how the doctor made it thru elememtary school. Frustrating!

Sherrall, I think you should pursue getting your thyroid lab reports. I can help you understand what the numbers mean. "

" MedLab1,
I'm glad you mentioned the relation between hypothyroidism and the elevated triglycerides. About a year ago I had a very elevated Triglyceride level. I will have to look back and see if I was on the high end of norml with my TSH at the time. Interesting!
And you are right. It is very frustrating how so many things get overlooked by our doctors. It pays to keep on top of our health problems. We are our best advocates! (-: "

" Thank you both for you input. I made an appt. with a new family Dr. on Thursday to do a meet and greet kind of thing. I will discuss this with him, when we meet. I am hopeful I will be able to find a new Dr. that will work with me.
That will be the first question. lol

I will ask if I can get my blood tested again for all this. I am scheduled to have it all checked Jan. 7th any way, by my family Dr. I see now. I do this every three month, it's just getting the results and understanding what it all means, that I am having issues with. I needed them for this new specialist I am see and her office faxed them over to there office. lol
Now only if I can get my hands on them.
I will ask that question too. If I can get copies of all my test results, so I can put together a file for future references.

I will let you know, when I get them.

Thanks again. I will asked about the Crestor as well, but I don't think he will be able to help me with that until he gets my blood level results. I will see how he wants to proceed, as long as he is willing to work with me.

Hope you all have a great week.

Gentle hugs, Sherrall "

" you mentioned earlier about saving up for a membership at the Y. have you applied to the Y for a scholarship? i know some of the Y's will do that for people who have a real need but are financially strapped...also, they do offer a low cost visitor pass...ours offers it at $5 per visit. true that can add up, but for an occasional use it is still cheaper than membership "

" Thanks for your reply barneybear.
The day pass is 10 per visit. and the basic member ship is 55. a month, and a 85. one time fee. Hubby makes too much for me to qualify for any finance help.

I just hate to get too behind in keeping my visa up to date. So I wont join until I get it back to 0 after Christmas.

I will be going at least 4 time a week.

My sister just told me she is thinking about joining too, so this will be nice.

Hope your having a nice day.

Gentle hugs, Sherrall "
