Severe anxiety about blood pressure/heart

Hi, i'm 25 and was just recently diagnosed with high blood pressure. I have also been treated for hypothyroidism since I was 16. I'm on birth control, and overweight. I've tried HCTZ and Lisinopril both of which made me dizzy and lightheaded. I felt like I was going to pass out almost every time a stood up. My heart would race and I would have a panic attack. I switched to Metoprolol recently and the lightheadedness has gone away for the most part, but i'm only on 12.5 mg twice a day and it helps a little bit, but my BP is still high sometimes (135/95). I don't know if my "side effects" are from the medication or from my constant anxiety. I get heart palpitations sometimes. I'm constantly checking my pulse (usually over 100), and check my BP as often as I can while i'm home. All I can think about is my BP and worrying about having new/more side effects. I just feel like it has taken over my life and I wish I could go back to when I didn't know I had high BP. Anyone else feel this way?

" all ace inhibitors cause lightheaded..and dizziness all meds will dizziness to begin the med ...the lisonpril is a good one im on 40 mgs on it 7 yrs..im on 3 total bp since19 im 46.. the one you said is called loppsor its a beta blocker this will lower the heart beat alot...so if your hearts beating avg 72 bpm at rest then with this loppsor the h.r. would fall lower 60, upper 50,s or lower depending on strength mine went as low as 42...but the hctz is a water pill combined with the med...all bp meds will cause this for about 2 monthes then u wont hardly even notice it..ace inhibitors are real good with blood p..yoiu cant think on the dizziness compared tom what ur bp can do to your target organs..ur bp 135/95 is up if u dont take the meds ur bp will spike to like 150/100 170/110....at night ur bp drops wile sleeping along wit h.r. and body temp..you need this lisonpril it also protects the kidneys i know i only have 1...and the lisinopril holds onto potassium more....do the right thing on these meds great luck to you.. " Hi,

I know exactly how you feel, when I was first diagnosed with HBP I felt the same way. The diagnosis can sound very scary but you can manage your HBP . I would suggest that you maybe try to take a meditation class or yoga this might help with the HBP and anxiety. Please don't worry everything will be alright. You just have to focus on other things that make you happy and take your mind off of the HBP. Try this website you can began to meditate here if you like. I hope this helps out.

" I had the same problem. Still do - a little bit. But it gets better. People say you need to focus on other things, which is true, but very hard to do at first. It helps, I think, to know that other people are having the same problem. We get through it. "

" Are you using birth control pills? This might be affecting your blood pressure, too. Here's a blog post about how they affect each other:

" I know what you are going through. I suffer from the same thing. I am so scared of the BP monitor it is always higher and I can feel it. The BP meds I take (metoprolol) make me light headed sometimes too...especially if I take it with hot food or drink. If you can manage your anxiety and know that all these symptoms are from that, it will get better.... "

" try to think of the positive to get your anxity down. Your blood pressure is not that bad, its in the mild stage. Just by losing weight it may even come down to the point you can come off the medications (with your docter's ok). Anxity raises my blood pressure a lot higher then that. I would be happy with your numbers if thats how high it gets when your anxious. Try some magnesium, its suppose to calm your nervous system. "
