Since being put onto extra meds for anxiety, my b/p has gone up considerably. I used to have low blood pressure problems but now the opposite. My doc is going to check it in another 2 weeks, and said if it is still high she will put me on meds. This is all new to me but I feel lousy with it, mostly from mid afternoon onwards. Seem to feel ok in the mornings. I don't really know how to describe it, but it is scaring me. I guess I just don't know a lot about it. Any help would be appreciated. I take meds for depression, thyroid, anxiety, aspirin. I have already had one very tiny stroke and am scared of another.

how high is your blood pressure running right now? did he give you any instructions on what you should do these next two weeks that might lower it naturally, such as cut out salt, process foods, etc?

Thanks for you reply. Doc didn't say to stop taking various foods wtc. My n/p was 170/90, which is high for me, usually having low blood pressure. How does high blood pressure make you feel? How do you know how to judge if it is high? Just don't feel right in the head dept.

My doc put me on 15mg Avanza (Mirtazapine) and it is doing great things for my anxiety. At the same time she wants me to decrease the amount of Seroquel I am taking from 100mg, down to nothing. Decreasing one tablet per week. Unfortunately I am a smoker and have already had one very minor stroke, and this concerns me. I might just have to lash out and get a monitor to check it. Thankyou sooo much for your advice, because ths has stressed me out a bit.

Hi bmason, I don't have a bp monitor at home and can't afford to get one. Saw dr yesterday bp still too high so she has put me on 10/12.5mg of Fosinopril (aka Monoplus) . The thing that worries me about taking them is that one of the side effects is low kidney function, and my blood tests over the last 12 months have showed low kidney function. I don't understand it, but don't want it to get any worse. I am a bit scared about the whole deal. Next appt is in 4 weeks, and I am to have blood tests before I see her.

Hi vonny,
my anxiety has been great since going on the new med, but everything seems to have side effects so they put you on another med to counteract it and I am finding I have a handful in the morning and night. Want to get off this pattern, but can't. Very frustrating to say the least. Just hope they know what they are doing.

I didn't take my hbp med this morning till I rang the dr. She said that although this is listed as a side effect, this med can actually raise kidney function and that's why she put me on this one. So took it after I spoke to her. Blood tests in 4 weeks will check my kf and see whether or not it has improved. If it has gone down, we will have to look at something else. But she said no damage would be done to kidneys in 4 weeks. Still a bit apprehensive.
