Hibiclens

I've been dealing with some infections and breakdown from surgery, yesterday my surgeon told me to go get hibiclens. Does anyone use this, and does it work? We got it, but it was $20 for a medium size bottle. Just wondered if it was worth the money.

" I've never used Hibiclens or been told to use it by my doctor. To be honest, I don't do anything for my cysts. I just deal with the swelling, wait for them to burst and cover them with a Band-Aid. Could explain all the scars I have lol I'll have to look into the Hibiclens solution. "

" From my experience it's the 'old school' doctors that recommend peroxide. When I had an infection on my c-section incision my doc told me to use the peroxide on it to clean it, my home care nurse was astonished that he still went that route. When I had surgeries on my HS under my arm, my general surgeon told me to never use peroxide on them. So, there is a ton of conflicting thoughts on this. I like Epsom salt to make them open up, and when they are draining, even though it burns sometimes, it does help dry them up. I use betadine after I use antibacterial dial when washing. I stopped doing this so I'm guessing that's why I started getting the flares again. I guess I got too comfortable with not having any. "

" Yes, epson salt is awesome...and cheap! I like cheap considering I'm broke haha. Leslie, I always wondered what I would do or feel if I had no flares...I mean this has been my life for so long...it would be strange, so I understand ur statement! "

" You can either put it in ur bath and soak or put it directly on a hot compress to the cyst/boil/lesion...if its open it will burn, but it helps speed recovery. If its closed it helps to open it. I use epson salt for a ton of things. Swollen feet, legs, muscle aches, its a great cheap anti inflammatory. "

" Kat, to be honest I don't know how I did it. But for YEARS I didn't have any flares under my arms, I had small ones on my inner thighs but nothing that I couldn't handle. Just within the past couple months I started getting the flares under my arms again. Believe me I wish it would stop again. "

" Just got home from the surgeon again, and they were pissed that the other surgeon told me to use peroxide! So I'm back to cleaning with hibiclens, she said never use peroxide. Also they were pissed because he put me on augmentin 875 twice a day and keflex 500 four times a day. Because of it I have a horrible yeast infection and have to take meds for 3 days for it. URGGG. Everything else is okay...got stitches out of my ear (hurt like hell, because they were so tight they had to use scalpel to get them out) and tube removed, that was not fun, but so glad its out now. Might get all the staples out as early as next week. They re-prescibed my morphine, percacet, and flexiril, and added a nerve pain medication, hopefully it helps. "

" i see everyone seems to be totally against the whole peroxide thing, i just hope it doesnt have anything to do with my post. i must say that when i used the benzoyl peroxide recommended by my derm it didnt do a thing for me. as far as my surgery on the tailbone, i was told to use the betadine. im kinda feeling a little sensitive about the peroxide thing like im all of a sudden a bad person for mentioning it. and it really sucks.
