Surgery for HS?
Watch this

I am going to a general surgeon next Tuesday and was wondering has anyone had surgery for HS? Especially, stage 3 or that was located under your underarms. What was that process like? Did it help and would you recommend it for someone else? Also, can you think of any questions I should ask the Dr. I have a list but at this point it is not extensive. I know that I have tunneling and that HS is pretty much spread out over both my underarms, and one similar spot in my groan area so that where I would be considering getting the surgery.

" I had surgery under both my underarms over 10 yrs ago.Had to have it done a 2nd time under my left cause the surgeon didnt get all the infection. It was kind of a hard area to heal,if you sweat alot will make it worse.HOWEVER,it was the BEST thing i ever did!!!! I may get a simple "pimple" size lump once in a blue moon but nothing close to what i was dealing with before the surgery.I think your doing the right thing.OH....my surgeon did NOT remove the lymph nodes under my arms.He said it would cause more problems then not.It depends on what you & your surgeon decide is best for you.You will want to ask him/her about it.Wish the best for you & let us know how your doing =] "

" Okay thank you. I'm kind of nervous and excited about it. The surgery route is kinda scary to me. I don't want to have to get skin grafted. Did your hs spread to a different area? "

" My HS has been under my breasts, inner thighs, buttocks & groin.Fighting groin wounds now for about 8 months straight, one after another.I would actually opt for surgery in my groin right now IF i had medical ins. (cant afford it through work, waaaaaaaaaaayy to expensive). "

" I had surgery last year under my arms. The recovery wasn't so bad. I had drainage tubes under both arms and my movement was limited but the Percocets helped lol There was no pain, just awkward sleeping. I wish you the best of luck and hope your surgery goes well :) "

" I had surgery last July under my arm, it was worth it,
I still get minor flare ups but nothing like it was! Recovery was ok, I'd say more uncomfortable than pain. Only issue I had was doing too much too soon and ripping a few of my stiches which made my scar wider than it would have been. I have an office job and the doctor had told me to plan on being out 2 weeks, went back to him to get released and he wanted me out another 2 weeks but I was able to talk him into letting me go back with a restriction that I couldn't lift anything over 5 lbs for 2 weeks. Good luck with your surgery, I hope it helps you as much as mine helped me!! "

" Had surgery under my left arm, need it done now under my right!! Nowhere near the same since they did the left underarm, very glad to have had it done and recovery was not too awful. I did go buy some plain white t shirts, cotton, way to small for me to hold bandages in place instead of tape. Tape in that area is painful to remove and replace when you need clean bandages but a tight t-shirt worked well. "
