If you google some of the various medical websites, such as WebMD, you can find a great deal of information on HH surgery. The success rates can vary from 60% to 90%, depending on the "source" of information, as well as some other factors. Normally, the surgeon will repair the hernia, and then wrap the upper part of the stomach (the fundus) around the esophaugus. This procedure is called a Nissen Fundoplication. There are some side effects involved with the surgery - some of which could be long term.
Please let me know how it goes for you and what you find out. We are pulling for you.
