Handling naturally

I thought I may as well start a subject where anyone could add how they are handling HH in a natural way, without medication. I just put this reply to someone esle, so am now adding it here.
**** I am also handling naturally. I have written lots of info in other posts on this site that pretty well covers what I am doing to help it. My Hernia is not small. I don't take any medication or pain killers at all - ever. I try to let the body heal itself. Am organic vegetarian. 63 years female. I found kinesioligist (get a good one) was really helpful. I took along a list of all my foods and drinks - some with specific brand names - plus a sample of my bottled water I use. We have fluoride in the water here (rat poison!). She went down the list and put a cross next to all that was causing my body discomfort or allergies. Listed what was neutral and what was of benefit. The bottled water was not ideal for me and she directed me to a local cheap supplier of Reverse Osmosis bottled water. We drink lots here as its very humid, so the water makes a difference. Well it does anyway as its a life giver - like deep breaths of good air taken right into the lungs. Some kinesiologists who aren't so good or confident may want you to take all the actual food products along. That is a nuisance and takes so much longer to do and you pay for that time. Mine is in Australia, cheap and efficient an caring. I would say this has been a major turning point and up to the other day I hadn't had any pain or attacks for many weeks. Then I slipped up and drank a berry drink at a friends (that I knew was not ideal) and then had a meal a few hours later. The combo of the two, did it!.......I am feeling totally fine now and no discomfort whatsoever anymore. I shall be more careful! I have really learnt not to mix many different foods together or to allow 4 hours at least in between different types of foods. I am sticking to alkaline foods mainly - and avoiding acid foods- espec evenings. I had given up foods I loved too but it wasn't until I really examined ALL the foods and drinks that I really made major improvement. Now I only have what the body handles comfortably, according to the kinesiologist, or occasionally what is neutral. I have tested out some of the things she said that I had thought were fine, by just having a tiny bit of that on its own and seeing if I feel any discomfort whatsoever. She has been right every time. I can feel when tuned in for it. We have a product here called Gaviscon which coats the oesophagus and works but it has chemicals in it. So I asked a natural pharmacy out here - great place called Newtons in Sydney- been around 120 years - if they could make it up for me without any chemicals. They can. Each 10ml liquid dose contains... Sodium Alginate 500mg; Sodium Bicarbonate 267mg; Calcium Carbonate 160mg. These are the part that works. That is the ingredients minus the chemicals. People could get it made up locally at a trustworthy place. You can take it after meals and last thing at night. It does help. Now I am working on handling it holistically - looking for the source, beliefs, etc. I am planning on NOT having this for the rest of my life! Have to strengthen the stomach wall. How to handle hiatal hernia
Get rid of the stress in your life. Very important. Creates acid in stomach. Eat hours before you are going to sleep. Don’t mix many different food types. Just before going to bed, take 5–10 ml of a natural substitute for ‘Gaviscon’ - to coat the Oesophagus. Find a natural pharmacy outlet and arrange for this to be made up for you. (Sodium Alginate 500mg; Sodium Bicarbonate 267mg; Calcium Carbonate 160mg.) use a natural sweetener such as Organic Vanilla essence to make it more palatable. Sleep with head and chest raised. Arrange pillows accordingly or raise bed end. Drink lots of water. Drinking plain filtered water can help neutralise an acidic stomach (maybe not if its really bad though). A glass of quite warm water can sometimes neutralise discomfort/mild pain. When stomach is full, help to drop the hernia lower by dropping hard from toes onto heels. Can also jump down from a chair. Downward movement is what is needed, not jumping up and down. Eat right foods. Alkaline foods are best. Vegetables are virtually all alkaline. Same with fruit. Avoid acid foods. Cause severe pain or at least nausea. Avoid coffee, caffeine, alcohol (especially wine), meat or pork, chocolate, mint, peppermint, acid foods (eggs, tomatoes, oranges), pizza, heavily spiced foods, tea and stress. Bread mainly wheat, as it can expand going down the oesophagus. The gas from fizzy drinks actually can rise up the stomach causing your oesophageal sphincter muscle to open. So you should focus on drinking water and other non-carbonated drinks. Don’t mix many different foods within a same four period. Can get away with similar foods, ie some different veges or different fruit. Some melons not ideal. Any coffee in stomach at same time as food produces problems – even hours after the food eaten. Don't drink liquids with your meals. To prevent being thirsty drink two or three glasses of room temperature clean water a half to an hour before your meals. Then you will have plenty of saliva and not feel thirsty while you are eating. Take a good digestive enzyme like Bio Organics Essential Enzymes that handles fats, carbs and protein – one with each meal. This brand contains Pancreatin 100mg providing Protease to aid Protein digestion; Liptase to digest fats; Alpha Amylase to digest Carbohydrates; Cellulase 5mg to digest fibre; Tilactase 5mg to digest lactose; Papain 50mg to digest Protein, Beta Hydrochloride 50mg. No added starch, salt, yeast, gluten, articial colours or flavourings. Note: People who have O blood group may be better getting capsules/tablets that do not contain Hydrochloride acid as they may already have enough Hydrochloric acid in their stomach. Buy a strip of PH tape to test your alkaline/acid content of stomach regularly. Meadowsweet tea can be sipped. I really helps the stomach. Slippery Elm powder for bowels and stomach. Eases everything. Camomile tea is relaxing. See a kinesiologist to establish what foods your body can and can’t handle comfortably. Find a good chiropractor/Oesteopath, preferably one who is also a kinesiologist to push the Hernia out of your diaphragm. This is probably only a temporary measure as it often goes out again. Keep getting it put back. Try and see how it’s done as you may be able to do it yourself. If you can keep it out long enough, the weakened stomach wall may be able to repair itself.. May be harder to put back a large hernia. If you can find out any thought patterns/ beliefs about the condition this may help. Strengthen the stomach wall.
