Trial and error! Finally learning what probably everyone else already knows!!
I have now discovered that if I eat foods that are acid forming, then I am in trouble. Very acid forming, means having non stop pain and all the other symptoms. Just a bit of acidic foods and I inevitably wake up with nausea. I had thought fruit and veg was alkaline, but fruit has sugar in it which turns to acid in the stomach.I had been making a large fresh fruit drink every day using kiwi fruit, strawberries, banana, apple and passion fruit, in the blender. Delicious, but there it was, got the nausea back. I have also discovered that drinking plain water (I use bottled) can help neutralise an acidic stomach (maybe not if its really bad though). I discovered that I can get away with a weak coffee provided there is no other food or drink (water OK) in my stomach at all and I don't eat anything for a couple of hours after. Of course, its not worth the hassle to do that but nice to know I could if I wanted to! I have learned that an alkaline stomach makes me almost symptom free. They say no cancer or nasty bacteria can ever form or survive in an alkaline stomach. I bought a test kit (from a local company found on the net) that you wet with saliva and it gives your PH reading so u can see in a second whether you are acid or alkaline and how bad it is. Vegetables are virtually all alkaline. So, what I now have - and it is producing a really good result - for me. I have no tea or coffee or cows milk or soya milk (I have rice milk) no processed food, no chicken or meat, tons of different fresh vegetables made up in tons of interesting ways. Brown rice with fresh veges in, vege soup, pumpkin soup, fish, organic oat milk ice cream, home made cake, butter, have occasional pasta and tinned tuna. Other odds and ends. I don't eat bread but probably could if its healthy bread (not processed) and in small quantities. A friend who has a HH just told me to buy some Meadowsweet tea and sip that. I really helps the stomach. She also uses Slippery Elm powder for bowels and stomach. Eases everything. What a relief from agonising long bouts of drastic pain and 24 hours of milder pain. It seems the info I had about fruit ending up as acid in the body from the sugar content in the fruit may not be correct. I have to check that out. Fruit and veges should all be OK.

Shantarn - Either way, I don't think you're on the wrong path. I began having problems with sugar a few years ago. I switched to Splenda but that seems on the road to becoming a problem as well.

I was doing so well and then.... My kinesiologist gave me a list of foods and drinks that my body wasn't handling well. One of those was a natural blueberry, blackberry and redcurrant drink. She said some berries were a problem for me. Short story is .... I accidentally had a glass of that drink. Bingo. Pain etc back again. Two hours of agony and the next three days had to be extremely careful what I ate. Its eased off now but still a bit of discomfort.God, I have to be so careful. I guess I will learn.
